I didn’t think that wma was open yet. That is some amazing country. As a kid we used to chase prairie chickens out towards Tokio.

I’d love to call some song dogs out there !

Great hunt

The hunt itself was a draw hunt through TPWD. Only the one youth hunt for that particular WMA for this year. There will be a couple of adult hunts out there for mule deer later on. I believe one will be a trophy hunt and the other one will be a mature or management buck (not exactly sure on the wording).

All in all it was a pretty awesome trip. We got to hunt country and animals that we have never had the opportunity to hunt before. He was successful (which isn't everything but it is nice) and made great shots on both of the deer. It definitely made me proud. It will definitely be a great memory that my son and myself will have together. We'll definitely be talking about this trip many many times in the future.

I responded above as well but it's my understanding that the WMA isn't open to the general public. Just a very limited draw hunt opportunity for mule deer. Also on the hunts you're with a biologist for the duration of the hunt.
