Pretty dead calm here in northern Liberty County...

Had a great practice session with my grandsons after lunch... If I can keep the oldest (7) from getting excited if/when the pigs come in tomorrow afternoon, he should be able to take one out with the crossbow... He was dead nutz from 15 to 30 yards on the 3D pig... I hope the wind is good enough to allow us to get one to come in without bustin' us...

Charlie, are you still on the lease in Liberty? Curious how bad all this rain has treated it

Yep, I went last Wednesday and pulled cameras and pop up blinds... At the current level of the river, access is pretty much cut off at the county road... Had a good 10 coming in to my Beach House pipeline stand too (where you lost your knife)... That's high ground so I'm hoping he'll hold tight there... All that area around your back stand is under water now... Three times out of the last 4 years!! ...gettin' pretty old... Harvey got the creosote bridge so that has made getting to the area where your front stand was a real pita... Some big ol' deer back in there tho...

Hoping you all can clear something up for me. I will be hunting for the first time with my bow shortly and was looking up regulations. I will be in a national forest... the uforst services site says I can shoot up to two anterless but the county site says no anterless until gun season. Which is correct? Does county supersede federal regulations?

Edit: may have found my own answer... from TPWD: Antlerless Deer Nov. 3-25, antlerless by MLDP tag or hunting license tag, no antlerless harvest on National Forest Service property; Nov. 26-Jan. 6, antlerless by MLDP tag only.

Unless mldp is something different?

You can shoot doe with archery tackle till general season opens. Have at it! Under archery it should say something along "no antlerless permit required".

Right at 50 here.

Drew 2x on a boar yesterday and he split. Seen the largest spike of my life running a doe at 35 last night. Easily 12".

Button buck and 6 track star pigs this morning. The swine is about to wear me out. Not sure i can hold out on carryin a rifle much longer.

Weirdest thing I climbed down about 9:30 and 50 yards behind my stand was a small 8pt and he was only 20 yards from me. He stared at me and didnít flinch and let me walk right past him without running off. Anything like that ever happen to anyone? He isnít a pet either flat out wild animal.

Saw deer at 1230 after running a chain saw for an hour clearing a tree from the road.

Decided to switch gears this afternoon. Tired of seeing pigs i cant get a shot at. Course any deer i had planned on shooting will be 20 yards from the corn pile I'm watching.

Well my grandsons and I had a great sit, but no pigs came in... I think that north wind got us... They both did very well for a first sit. They were fidgety, but were quiet for the most part... The oldest was making low grunting (hog calls) when we first got into the blind... he got the hiccups and could not stop... right up til dark... lots of birds and some squirrels so they were entertained pretty well... Both said they wanted to try again... Will wait for a south wind and give it a go again...

Welp Iím back at home and back to work in the AM. Hunted Friday through this evening. Saw one deer which was a small 8pt Saturday evening and bump a deer walking out after tonightís hunt. Rut is very, very close. The moon is brighter as all get out (camera caught em at night). Hoping next time Iím up there itíll be better conditions and LESS MOON.

Lucky.. I'm two hours away. I work shift so come Friday I start my long break (7 days) but I've got a wedding to attend this weekend. Depending on weather during the week next week is when I'll swing back up there before all them youngin's start blasting away the woods..
