Was thinking about getting a custom made rifle and had a couple of questions for the brain trust. This rifle is going to be used for hunting only and wanting to reach out to 400-500 yards. First question is are the really that much better than 500$-1000$ factory rifle? I have been looking around and seeing that a custom gun is like 4000$ and up and that seems pretty high to me but what do I know because I buy most of my guns used. Would I be better off getting a factory rifle and just go and have a new trigger put on it and get it accurized? Second is there anybody ya’ll suggest that can build one? I know a lot of ya’ll like hill country but they just seem high to me. I would like to be around 2K-3K without a scope or even under that. I’m second guessing myself because talking to my dad about it and he was pretty much telling me that I was crazy to spend that kind of money on a gun when I shoot decent with the guns I have now. I can shoot 1” groups at 200 yards out of my truck and about 3” groups at 300 yards. Plus I would have to sell 3 or 4 guns I have now to get it. I guess my main question is it worth it?

In my opinion with a 4-500 yard goal...no.
I'd look for something in the $7-1000 range preferably with an accuracy guarantee and a quality composite stock. Bed the rifle, install a good trigger and the best glass your budget will allow then hit the RELOADING bench. It will do all you're asking and more.
You could get a stainless 700 SPS or Savage 111 package, install a new trigger and a Bell and Carlson stock for just under $1K. BTW-most all factory rifles use the same barreled action and just charge more for the add-on's until you get into something like a the 5R or Savage target models.
Having said that and personally owning a Cooper, there's something about a fine custom.
Once again, JMO.

Dad's know stuff.
That being said, it may come down to your motivation.
Pride in owning a gun you got to make all the decisions on and had put together just the way you wanted is a strong motivator. I've had my share in the past and enjoyed them, but...when the motivation is more utilitarian, as in you are going to use it as a tool, and obtain your enjoyment more from shooting than just owning, then for me the factory rifle with some careful handloading and maybe a better trigger, has suited me well for the last few years.
