The big 9 that had eluded me

    Has made his last mistake.

    Tale of the tape:

    When: 5:30pm CST
Where: Uvalde County on border of Zavala Cnty
Equipment: Mathews Halon, Easton Axis 340, Muzzy Trocar Hybrid 100 Graina
Weather: 60* winds 3-6 mph out of the northwest

So, I first saw this buck around Thanksgiving. Had him at 20 yards for about 15 minutes. Decided to let him walk because I wanted to wait for the rut to see if I would have a chance at something better. This deer was notorious for being at my blind for two days and then gone for 5. You could pattern him to that on the spot.

Today, he walked in from the end of my sendero (~300 yds of light hand corn) like he normally does. I like to watch them walk in from a distance all the way to my main 30yd pile. He walked in, feed for about 30 seconds facing me, no shot. Then he went off the road and in the brush.

I waited and waited. At that moment, I saw him about 200 yards walking away! Dang It! All the way to the end of my sendero. He made a scrape, licked a branch and as if a divine intervention would occur, three does came out about 150 yds from me and began heading my way! That was his undoing. He followed all the way back to my 30! The rest is history for this old brute.

Sorry, we couldn’t find that page

Great job! Im just excited to read about one actually being killed with a bow! Seems like most of the ones on this bowhunting site are killed with a gun! Go figure?

Nice buck! Congrats on a fine bowkill!

Did you have to run another arrow through him after the spine shot or did you clip the artery underneath it too??

What do you think his brows would have been like?
