I shot one with a rifle in that same spot or maybe a shade higher. I looked till I ran out of blood then continued the next morning. I brought a dog with me and she jumped the still alive aoudad. We both watched it climb a steep 200' grade and disappear. I could see dried blood up high but below the spine. I did not take a rifle with me since I was sure it was dead. Was I wrong. Never found that aoudad. My shot angle was downhill also. They are one tough animal to bring down. Good luck.

Seems like when we start getting these types of threads on TBH, most of the time the animal is not found.

Pretty far forward on a quartering animal. You may only have gotten the onside lung and stuck in the opposite shoulder on the opposing side.

Good luck to you though. If I had to guess, I would say still alive.

They can take a punch. That shot looks like it will miss the heart and may have gotten the lungs. It can still cut major arteries. Good luck on the recovery.

I hope so for your sake, but I think you may be a little far forward with a quartering away shot to catch the lungs.

I'm thinking your good. Lots of guys are calling high but your 20' up. The angle to me says you plowed through the top third of his left lung and the bottom third of his right. If you didn't get a pass through, it will be a little ways before you find some blood. My vote he's a goner. Good shot.
