You'll see a huge improvement from Texas on D. Use the Alamo bowl as a reference.

Could've said the same thing about the Horns after the Sugar Bowl win over UGA. Bowl games aren't indicators of next season success, at all. Returning starters/age is typically the best indicator on defense.

Bayou Burreaux may be head coach by the time those games are played

Yeah, except you completely missed the point.

The change in style of play and schemes with the new coaching staff is what I meant. No more constant 3 man fronts and delayed CB blitzes from 12 yards off the LOS.

Texas returns a ton hence the high FPI ranking.

Mack Brown doing his job well with NC at 18 are 19 preseason poll. I know it's early but sure the Tar Heels are loving it.

How Texas and A&M shouldn’t be on that list. OU should be 10. LSU should be top 5 until further notice.

It wasn’t about what Utah did or could do, it was about Texas finally had guys in position to make plays with healthy(ier) bodies. The difference in scheme allowed Texas to play fast and take advantage of the athletes they do have.

What ****** me off the most is Herman let this happen right under his nose. He had to baby sit the offense having its own struggles and let Orlando continue to run his stupid scheme over and over. When the most novice football fan point out the issues, that’s a problem. Herman gets all the blame for letting this happen. He better hit on these hires or his *** will be on a beach with his pockets stuffed of Texas buyout money.

Isn’t the FPI a metric, not necessarily the best teams but based on stats.

Texas and A&M return a lot of production so I’m sure that is why they are listed so high.

Agree. Utah was not a "good team" but they were probably better than a couple of the teams Horns lost to. Will be interesting to see how well he hit on the hires, very little slack left in the rope at this point.

I am excited about the returning starters except for the one who plays QB. As a fan I will support him and hope he has a great season.

Utah was definitely better than TCU. Herman needs to start winning all the games he's supposed to win. He does a good job as underdog. It's those games where he's a single digit favorite that worries me.

From that ranking, Texas' one loss would be from oklahoma.

Not sure how SEC West would work out. Are they saying Bama is a 1 loss #4? If so that could work out with LSU losing to UT and either a&m or Bama. Then the other team out of Aggy/Bama winning in the head to head. So my guess to make that work is LSU losing to both UT and Aggy. LSU beating Bama and Bama beating Aggy. All 3 would have to beat Auburn.

Every year ATM, Texas, OK, and Fl St get over-hyped and over-ranked. One of these decades the stars just may line up and the ranker hits the lotto. 6-7 of those teams listed may not even be in the top 25 at season's end.

Was this a prediction of how the season will end?

I thought it was a (way too early) pre-season ranking based on things like returning production, schedule, etc?

Prior to last season LSUs last title was a very weak one with 2 losses in 2007. Texas' was a very strong undefeated one in 2005. I guess y'all were overrated from 08-18. Bottom 10 since 1989 with Texas and OU.

Nobody can pretend that Texas hasn't been consistently overrated by the human polls in the preseason since 2010.

The preseason computer polls have not been nearly as kind to Texas over the last decade. They haven't had this kind of experienced talent for quite a while. A big component in the preseason computer models like FPI and S&P+ is returning production. Texas has a ton of production coming back on both sides of the ball (basically getting everything back but about 60% of their receiver production, which is significant).

That is the reason that the computers like Texas (and Texas A&M for that matter).

Of course, in the offseason, there is nothing for the computers to measure except for returning production, baseline talent per the recruiting services, and some historical trends.

Not real sure how you can put us (A&M) in that category. Since 2010 we have been Unranked during preseason AP polls 6 times...

2010: UR
2011: #8
2012: UR
2013: #7
2014: #21
2015: UR
2016: UR
2017: UR
2018: UR
2019: #19

I'm not real sure where you think we get a ton of respect... Especially the last 5 years being ranked 1/5 going into the season.

We had 2 in 5 years and just missed another. A couple of breaks and Texas could have been the dynasty before/instead of Nick.

Yeah, I know, they have sucked the last decade. Maybe this one will be better.

We can all play the what if game... at the moment Herman’s looking like he’ll be with a new team, before bringing texas back to a power team. However for the sake of good football i hope both texas teams get better, as much as i like bragging rights i prefer good football better. An Texas an a$m being good is good for cfb as a whole.

No but the fact there’s even a verdict looming speaks louder than Any optimism being pumped

Everyone's opinion means nothing.

Orgeron would probably be in the same spot as Herman if they hadn't hired Joe Brady.

I don't know if Herman is the guy to get Texas into real national title contention. But, even if he gets run after next year, the program will be in much, much better shape than when he took over.

Herman will either get it done or he won't. The AD has spoke his peace! Win or bye...

You know that for a fact? I remember some claiming we hired the equipment manager... guess we’ll agree O knows how to pick good assistants?

Not sure who yalls AD is, but he seems to handle this appropriately. He’s given TH a fair opportunity, and seems to have a realistic approach to the whole thing.... that’s all you can ask as a fan

Well, I said probably, so that don't amount to a fact. And, I thought O was the shrimp boat captain, not the equipment manager?
