Question on TPWD preference points?

If I apply to say three different hunts for the archery deer this year does that mean that I will have three preference points going into the draw for this year or will they not go into effect until next year?

You receive one loyalty point once you've applied for a category. You can only get one, per category per year.
If you don't get drawn this year, and you apply again next year, you will have two loyalty points for archery deer.

This exactly. Trying to keep folks from nabbing up preference points in 1-2 years, that have taken others a decade to acquire I think.
