so here's what i'd do

and very important you follow my directions

don't do it when she expects. . . . those anniversary dates and such that much hinting she may not know but she's expecting.

do make a big deal about it . . . from now to the end of the ceremony this is about her . . . not you. Thats part of what you learn in marriage.

the scripture is awesome . . do something that solidifies your relationship in God.

and second most important and a MUST

get rid of those trashy burgundy shirts and go get LSU Purple and Gold

congrats!

Don't do what I did. I got tired of her nagging about wanting to get married so I tossed it in her lap driving down the highway. Still here about it 12 years later!!

Propose on her birthday.

You're gonna be taking her out to eat anyway.

Kill 2 birds with one stone.

It will be easier to remember too.

You're telling me!!! I still don't know how in the world I managed it. Well, I do, but that's something that is our inside story that we keep between us!

Here is one of my favorite pics. Not because it's some trip or event. But bc of what she did. My family cancelled thanksgiving last minute and I had to break the news to her. Now we have a big family dinner. Usually 30+ people. I have a large family of aunts, and uncle, and cousins. So when she found out my dad wasn't doing thanksgiving and was going to be sitting at home with my step mother she ran to the store and bought enough food to feed an army. We went to his house and she slaved for 9 hours making stuffed turkey and all the fixings bc she wanted him to have a great thanksgiving.

all joking aside. . . enjoy the process. Don't let the "run" or "hand it to her" guys win. Make it special . . . . hopefully you do it just once so make it memorable.

Sent mine on a scavenger hunt with our kids at each spot that was important to us giving her a clue to the next spot. Initial way to get her on road was going to a garage sale with first clue in glove compartment. I was at end of the trail with the ring. It was outdoors in a major thunderstorm.

My plans changed drastically. I had planned on asking her at the family farm during Christmas. It wasn't the greatest weekend due to circumstances that were out of our control. So the next week when I got home from work, I called the kids into the room with us, dropped to my knees wearing my workstained overalls, and asked all 3 of them if they would have me in their lives forever they still talk about that day makes me smile every time

But I also have to agree with the suggestion to get her to say "I Do" before she visits the optometrist

I'm with the make the actual proposal just between you two. No need to make a huge production out of it.

All that can come later at an announcement gathering or what not.

The Aggies have a gymnastics team?

My advice isn't as much of a how as a when. Propose on the dating anniversary and suggest that is your wedding date in '18.

Nice and tidy, easy to remember, and that date will have a truly special meaning for you both.

Yes they have a club team. She was at OU for gymnastics but knew she wanted a career in the future so she transferred to A&M bc they have one the top mechanical engineering programs in the country. She was the captain of the club team her senior year and now a mechanical engineer for upstream oil and gas and number 3 in the engineering firm she works for. She's only been in the field for just shy of two years.

Ah. My daughter is a competitive gymnast and she loves going to the TWU meets and as a result I knew TWU has the only varsity level gymnastics team in Texas. If your gal was on the OU team then it's likely my daughter saw her compete at a meet since OU goes to TWU most years.

This is probably very true! By the way, she said going to A&M was the smartest decision she ever made!! But she comes from a family of Aggies. Her grandfather designed Rudder Tower and the patch on the Corps uniforms. She's also a daughter of the republic of Texas. Lol. Yeah, my redneck ole country azz ain't gonna find another one that comes close to matching this one!

I took the wife to where we had our first date and asked a random women to take a picture of us for old time sake and when she went to fix her hair I got down on one knee it was pretty good, we had pictures of it and also she informed me that that's also where we first kissed almost in that exact spot.

I proposed in the living room and then took her to dinner where our familys were waiting. Surprised her twice in one afternoon. Propose somewhere better than the living room, but the dinner part with both familys you should consider. Oh and try not to trip over your words when you get down on one knee and keep a beer or 3 close by. I got so dang nervous I could barely talk! Lol

True story...

I can speak in front 1 million people and not have a problem.. But in that kitchen telling him that I wanted to take care of his youngest daughter for the rest of her life was the most nerve wrecking experience ever....

Being an old Baseball player, I always, ( too much ) talked about the glory days. So I always was talking about my pitching ability and my skills at short stop. One of my favorite expressions was " I caught him looking coach " when I would strike out a good batter. Meaning that I had surprised him with a pitch he never expected. So We were chilling one night watching a movie after a long day of doing what ever she wanted to do. I had patterned her from previous said activities and knew she would hit the couch with a blanket to settle in and watch said movie. So I planted the ring the night before under the couch and really was worried she would choose another location on this night. However, she, as if on a string went to the couch with a blanket and ask me to join her. So I started that way and stopped just short, i knelt down in front of the couch, got the ring, and said did you see that!!?? She kind of freaked out and said see what!!! I replied with " I caught her looking coach " and showed her the ring. June will be 16 years ago. And still to this day when I do something that impresses her, and she questions it, I say " aint no thing, I caught him looking coach " Cheesy I know, but it worked! Next post I share will be the bomb!

THE BOMB!!!!! We had a student worker working for us at TAMU. He wanted to propose and had a plan. Long story short, He was able to propose at night, from the press box at Kyle field. He had family hold up the signs of will you marry me on the opposite " east " bleachers and someone turn on the lights on top of the press box. When the lights came on, he hit a knee with the ring. She said yes! I am still jealous of that.

Find a big piece of land, and since it's spring, plant flowers in the shape of WILL YOU MARRY ME. Quarter mile long should do it. Then take her on some made up trip in a airplane or helicopter and have the pilot fly over, when she looks at you, have the ring ready

Just my .02

X2

Guess I'm in my way to being an old fart. Too much emphasis on the engagement and wedding, not enough emphasis on the marriage is bad.

After dinner I hired a gondolier to take us out for a nice canal cruise. After cruising for half an hour through the beautiful canals, we headed out into open water and "found" a bottle floating in the water. All this time the gondolier had been singing in Italian and talking about the beauty of the canals and how they pick up trash if they find it floating in the water, in order to keep it pristine. so as we got close to the bottle he asked my girlfriend to pick the bottle out of the water, she happily obliged.

when she got it in her hands she noticed there was a message in the bottle on a nice piece of aged parchment paper. she popped the cork off and pulled out the message...and the ring. I knelt down in the gondola and read the letter I had written to her and proposed; the rest is history. 7 years and 2 kids later we are still loving life together.
Whoah! You're making us all look bad, I hate you for this! Only thing I have in common with this story is my wife was wearing pearls when I asked her too!

It would have been anticlimactic lol, there were no tears of joy, just a simple handshake and a yes...
