It’s not just the bad game this year at Clemson. Did you watch the Auburn game last year? His two “alleged” great games last year..Clemson and LSU....were just littered with bad throws and decisions. He was bailed out many times with acrobatic catches by the WR’s. He’s a 3rd year starter and should not be making freshman mistakes.

Yeah, Calzada, why not? Either watch Mond continue to flame away or bring in the highly touted freshman and let him get baptized by fire.

Speaking of scary, any word on Shack? I am assuming he is out for at least this week.
It has been the norm for all of this year and last.

Sam overthrew his target 80% of the time last year when trying to hit a tight end or slot receiver breaking straight down field. It happened a few more times in the first two games of this season. Saturday, he was spot on.

***Full Disclosure***
I made up the 80% stat. BUT IT WAS A BUNCH.

Hard to convince the fan base to suffer through developing Calzada this year so he will be the guy for 2020-2022 when the rest of the team is expected to catch up. Jimbo can't just come out and say that, and Mond seems to play just well enough so that Jimbo can't take him out.

Now some of the problems are on the receivers - but I think it starts and ends with the guy taking the snaps.

QB play hasn't been good in Fort Worth to this point. Hopefully the freshman dials it in a little bit this week. I think this game is gonna be close.

Duggan needs to soften his throws and receivers need to practice catching hard thrown balls. Hopefully they remedy some of that this week

Sonny has manipulated the transfer portal better than anyone else in the nation. Last week it was very obvious that this wasn’t the same SMU team of years past. I’m not sure how much better they are, but they dang sure LOOK better. Of course we looked like a real good 6A team in years past. Lol

Yep, receivers have been horrendous. But 2 of the starters have yet to play. Barber should be back this week which will help. Duggan is going to be special but just gonna have to live with the learning curve for a bit. The intangible stuff he's really good at! Unbelievable poise, pocket awareness, etc. Kinda reminds me of Ehlinger at that age

He dang sure has! Can't remember if I told you or not, but Sonny was actually our 'dorm director' at Navarro when he was coaching there and I was playing baseball. Always seemed like a pretty cool guy.

No you didn’t tell me. I knew his dad and got to know Sonny a little this summer. Good guy! Hope he’s the answer. I “think” he is there for the long haul unlike some of our recent coaches.

Hoping the Oklahoma State dominance ends. They've won 7 of the last 9 against Texas. I'm still a skeptic at this point. Texas needs to at least win by 10.

Patterson said today they would both play, but the writing is on the wall. Duggan played 11 out of 14 series last week and the whole second half. I think Duggan will start and Delton will have a 'set of plays' from here on out.

Mond had a bad start against Clemson, compounded by A LOT of critical drops and, of course the INT and fumble. They still had three 15+ play drives against a really good defense.

He looked sharp Saturday, albeit against inferior competition. Drive one stalled at the 3 on a dropped TD by Kibote. Drive 3 stalled (at the 14) thanks to dropped passes by Horry (tough chance) and a likely TD by Ausbon. Kendrick Rogers dropped a pass at the end of the half that would have resulted in a FG attempt.

Other than the INT coming out of the half (and 4 drops), what did you want to see from Mond that you didn't?

Ainias Smith is a great kid from an awesome family. I’ve know him since he was five, playing youth baseball with my son. Heck of an athlete, from a family of athletes. His brother played at Alabama, graduated in three years and played his final year at Georgia while attending grad school. Parents are good people. Pretty cool seeing Ainias in Maroon and White! 👍

Decision making is the problem I have.

He always looks great when it doesn't matter. In the big game he gets his deer in the headlights look, under performs, then goes to the sideline for his butt chewing.

He's about 12% behind Tua on completions, and anywhere from 10-20% behind the Ehlingers and Hurts of the world. Some of that is on the receivers, but the %, and the difference in the games, in my opinion comes from his overthrows and decision making.

Like I've said, I think it would be better to develop a future QB now, but Mond seems to play just good enough to keep his job.

Ags have been in QB "development" mode since Johnny (and honestly he was still in development). Showers, Hill, Allen, Murray (oops), Hubanek, Knight (ok, he was pretty developed), Starkel, Mond. Give me a third year starter (with eligibility and likelihood of playing 4th next year) over the QB shuffle we've been playing. Calzada had a good throw or two, but he overthrew receivers, too. I trust the coaches to put the right player on the field (certainly more than the armchair coaches).

We're three games in and he looked good in two. Get back with me after this weekend and maybe I'll be ready to reconsider.
