Little man drew a permit for spike/doe at Mason Mountain. This will be his first time to chase whitetail and heís pretty fired up.
We head down on Friday.

Heís been putting in the work as well.

I think I might be more excited than he is if thatís even possible!

The local game farm 1/2 mile from our rental house in Bozeman. There were 300-400 elk on the side of the hill as I ate breakfast. They just know thereís no hunting on that and adjacent ranches. Iíve inquired.

Attempts to call them to our 20 acres have proven fruitless to date- but fun never the less.

Hunting elk snd deer on BLM land in the Ruby Valley. Our house under construction is under the arrow. I keep pinching myself to make sure Iím not dreaming.

Iím putting in a hunting room with bunk beds for friends who want to hunt Montana. Maybe a September Bownanza- north?

Bill, I hate that we did not get to hook up when I was up there in September. Between fishing and visiting with my wife's brother who came from California, I just didn't have the time.

I havnt caught up on this thread in too long, good stuff as usual!

I hate to, but Iím here tonight asking for prayers. A great friend, old partner in crime, and one of the best dudes Iíve ever known, is going under the knife in the morning. A small matter of a ďfried eggĒtype cancerous tumor on top of his brain is to be taken out in the morning. Outlook is good, his spirits were high tonight, and heís in great hands. But if youíre so inclined, please send one up, or keep a good thought, or whatever you do, for my ol bud Torrey. Lots of people need him to come through this ok...myself, and his other pals, included..

Torrey is out of surgery. Doc said he got 95% of the mass, but some was intertwined in the brain. He was very pleased with how it went...that last 5% kind of worries me, but I'm not quite a neurosurgeon. I don't think Torrey will let them do radiation, so hopefully they have a plan for that. Tumor is obviously being sent off for testing.

Thanks for the prayers so far, and those to come...you dudes are top flight.

Ended elk season with no shots. Had my cross hairs on a 4x4 but decided to hold out for 2 6x6 bedded behind him- who went the other way when they got up. 4 hour hike out in wolf country at night at 10 degrees.

Held pulling the trigger on another day on an elk I could not see it on front of front legs blocked by 2 pine trees. 100 yards, laying prone on a bipod. He turned 90 degrees and no shot- massive solo bull.

So it goes. My back yard yesterday after season closed 3 weeks ago.

Hereís where our retirement home was on Friday. Praying this mild Montana winter keeps it up.

Been awhile since I posted on here, been on the road all month working in Longview, TX tracking American midstream lines.

So many miles I had to bite the bullet and get a new stick

I havenít checked in for some time. Things have been rather busy. In early December I took a new job within my agency in internal affairs. I started the first week of December. I left for a 13 week training course the first week of January. I graduate first week of April. Itíll all be worth it once Iím done. Itís extremely hard to be away from family but long run itís a great job. The last 2 weeks have been very rough academically and psychologically. Yíall keep that fire stoked and ready.
