I was on my knees welding on some exotic pens once and felt warm air on my neck. I raised my hood and slowly turned my head and was looking at the muzzle of a bull eland. I thought I was about to get stomped. He was gigantic. Then I heard the ranchers wife holler, "leave him alone Winnie". She came out and grabbed him by the ear and led him away. Man. was I relieved.

They think it weighted between 1400 and 1500 lbs, there was a slightly bigger bull in the group but I never got close enough for a shot, very interesting animals to hunt, I would compare the way they act to wild cattle, very alert and in herds so you have to get in front of them and let them work to you, if you bust them they run and trot away like cattle and in no time they are miles away. We spotted this group mid day bedded down in a wide open field, the ph said they were either going to feed out one of two ways, he put me on one side and my son on the other, it was my lucky day this one fed to within 30 yards, double lunged him with a fmj dangerous game and a 150 grain silver flame, he trotted about 75 yards and was done.
