That’s a tough area. Hit or miss with a whole lot of miss.

I had a lease just off of Hwy 44 and C903 that had little to no activity, but YMMV....

I hunt east of San Diego. Never seen a 150". 7 other hunters on 1000 acres I'd wager you'd never see one either.

My buddy hunts about 6 miles north of town. He killed a really nice upper 40’s buck this year on 580 acres low fence no protein. From his first year on the property till now there has been a drastic improvement in deer quality, getting their buck to doe ratio in check and letting young bucks get older was the key. I would at least look at the property and check out the neighbors, you might be surprised. He has a few deer that should push 150” next season if we get the rains at the right time.

Jesse Garcia is the GW in that area. Call him and ask him if he'd pay money to hunt that area!

If it's west of San Diego I'd pass. There are deer east and south of there but a 150 would be hard to find. Unless it's got big neighbors near by which is doubtful mostly smaller ranches in that area.

I ask Leonel "Muy" Garza one time about a lease around san diego. he say we would be better off just to throw our money on the ground and walk away.

That area gets highway hunted hard, and lots of leased property gets hunted by ďfriends/familyĒ of the landowner no matter what the contract says. Lots of small property there that shoot any buck they see because ďif I donít, my neighbor willĒ which sucks for trying to grow and kill big deer. Honestly Iíd hunt day leases like first point before shelling out the expenses of getting on a lease around San Diego. Just my two cents, I was raised in Freer and been in that country all my life.

That’s the right amount of acreage for one spot.

We own 200 acres south east of San Diego on FM 625. We are border by a 600 and 1000 acre ranches. Most of our deer average about 130-140” but we do see some every now and then pushing the 150” mark. The key for our area is age as we have great brush and feed Protien and cotton seed. The high fenced place a couple ranches down kills 160” deer regularly with all native genetics so the deer are definitely there.

Same for me, but it was a long time ago. Let me just say, if you are not feeling it when you go see the place, trust your gut.

Itís tough out there for sure. If I had to lease the property I hunt down there Iíd pick a dif area.
Mainly hogs. And coyotes. Oh and more coyotes.

I did see a few deer though. Iím not too concerned with how big a rack is and I kinda enjoy thatís itís harder to hunt there.

Hunted the Kaffie ranch one year. Saw some great deer. I had to move to a 200 acre place a few miles away. Maybe saw 10 deer mostly does all season. Everything around it was small 10 - 50 acre places.
