    Hill country stump chewing

A friend of mine has a place up near Junction and has a bunch of cedar that he has chopped down. One of the stumps looks like its being chewed on by something and the ground around it is worn out and dug up in almost a perfect circular pattern. Any guesses. It is high fenced with white tail, axis, black buck, sika, fallow, a couple elk and a few hogs. I don't really think hogs are doing it.

    Guesses????

I know Porcupines chew the heck out of trees/stumps.

Could be, he does have at least one, but it's a pretty big circle that's worn down or dug up around the stump. I thought maybe they were looking for a certain nutrient?

Porcupine would be my guess as well.

Put a game cam on it and see what shows up!

Might be hogs if there is sap oozing from the stump. Are there any prints in the dirt?

Just looked at the picture and I don't think it's hogs. I was thinking they might be rubbing and tearing it up that way.
