Neat new website! Public hunting is available on most National Wildlife Refuges in Texas. Most well known are probably deer hunts at Laguna Atascosa and Aransas NWR, firearms hunts at Balcones Canyonlands NWR or Trinity River NWR, or the near legendary bowhunt for whitetails at Hagerman NWR. Excellent waterfowl hunting can be found on many of the upper TX coastal refuges (Aransas and Laguna Atascosa have protected areas around them for waterfowl and migratory birds). Dove and Exotic hunts are becoming more popular on the Lower Rio Grande Valley NWR. These are hidden gems for those that put in the effort to learn the rules and the lands. I first bowhunted Aransas NWR 21 years ago, and it is - as they say - the toughest whitetail bowhunt there is. But the rewards are pretty darn good too.
