Homemade spotlight dimmer

Been trying to do this for a while finally got it situated. I have a line coming from the cigarette light to the box. In the box I have a high amp rheostat. From there I wired in a 12v utility plug. Just add the spot light.

Tinkering with voltage?

It's amps that "bleed off" what I was told. I just know that your rheostat has to be at least 12 volts and be over the 12v fuse amperage. I burnt up 3 smaller ones before I got it right.
