Hell yes. Crispy hickory smoked bacon...crumble it up and mix it in. Also add a couple tablespoons of bacon grease.

If I use....errr ...the boss orders.... beans, they are pintos and I put them in late. On a 1.5 hour low simmer, the last 15-20 minutes get the pintos because we are not huge fans of kidney beans. That's long enough to absorb some seasoning and not long enough to go to mush....for us anyway,

I don't eat kidney beans either, except in chili. They were made for it seems like. Anyways, looks good and enjoy.

My boss prefers it with beans so I make it with beans.....at deer camp or fish camp, no beans. I aint turned queer either.
