Default Belton lake slabs!!

Wrapped up my first ever trip to Belton lake yesterday! Man that's a pretty lake full of hungry white crappie. We found fish willing to bite everywhere we looked all 3 days! Caught most our fish on jigs tipped with minnows but color didn't seem to matter nor depth to get bit! Finding bigger fish to weight in was more of a challenge but we had a solid game plan and it payed off with second place. Came home with $520 a plaque and 2 coolers full of slabs! Had to use the clicker on day 3 so we wouldn't go over the possession limit. We had close to 70 in the cooler after the first 2 days and managed 9 pounds both days so I figured it we hit the best stuff all day Sat we stood a chance to finish good! Caught several blue days and 2 flatheads as well and saw tons of deer in the park! Nice area for sure!!

Congrats! I've never had crappie before. Some day I'll need to figure out a trip so I can give it a shot.

That's where weight in was. One of the guys had a military buddy that rented a trailer at Blora for the weekend. It was dirt cheap and made a perfect fishing camp! We had a crawfish boil Thursday night and played poker Friday night. Good times!!

Nice catch. We usually fish Belton but the past couple of years our spots haven't been producing. So we have been trying to learn Waco. Although I hear Belton has been producing some good fish this year. Send GPS coordinates? LOL

Zebra muscles covered the shallows early last summer. Then the rain started and the lake was 25+ feet over normal level and just a handful from going over the spillway. The zebra muscles moved up with the rising water. Then they finally opened the **** full and the water went down pretty rapidly. You can walk the shoreline and there are muscles everywhere on land. I didn't see a single one in the water. I think the rise and then rapid fall had an effect on them.

I remember the levels happening so it would be awesome if it killed them off or set them back a few years.

We didn't see any or get cut off on any fishing. We caught em on our jigs last year at Roberts. You would pull a jig off a pile and have a zebra mussel stuck to it.

It's a light flaky fish. Your probably not doing anything wrong. Maybe fry it a little longer. I go 6 minutes in peanut oil at 350 and I 1/2 or 1/3 the fillets in strips to help them fry crisper.

Yea, I have a hard time getting cornmeal to stick on them...its always just a real light coat.
I'll take a flathead over them any day, but enjoy catching them.
