Folks I'm going to say this is one of the colder hunts I've ever sat with a bow. Hands hurt and nose running constant. But at 5:15 a good doe came in to feed. She finally gave me a slightly quartering shot. I wish I could say it was perfect. It was not. But it was good enough. She went about 175 yards but the further she went the more she bled. I should have given her a little more time as she could still lift her head when I found her but she couldn't get up. This time I have the bloody arrow and the doe. I'm here alone so forgive the bad pic. I'm going to field dress her and take her home. I will get the wife to take one or two in the daylight tomorrow morning.Name: 20170105_185801.jpg

Thanks everyone. I was really worried on the shot but turns out it was solid liver and one lung.

Looks like practice in the dark again tonight. I guess it's better than not practicing but hard to see the arrow flight.

Every time I feel it's time to push it and start practicing further out it seems like I have to work harder at it. Stepping back to twenty yards was tough as it seemed I couldn't find a consistent hold. And then when I would cave, move in and shoot twelve to fifteen I was struggling there as well. However I have settled in some and seeing consistent improvement and it's tightened my shorter range groups as well. Maybe someday I will be able to shoot to thirty, on targets at least, and watch the arrow in flight longer. It's a beautiful thing to see.

You really need to take baby steps back. Don't just go 5 yards and keep trying there. You miss and your brain starts getting confused. Gotta keep going back to your happy spot to keep your brain happy.

This is why the walkback game is useful, you start in your happy place and slowly work back. If you fail, you don't keep suffering, you start over.

Last year 12 yards was my good spot. This year it is 15. Been working on it and 18 is getting more consistent.

I see your point. I do "walk back". I just walk 5 yards before I get tired and stop to shoot.

I'm at 3Fingersbowhunting at the invite of my friend Ben. Looking for some smaller pigs but all I have so far are 3 fallow bucks.Name: 20170127_174525.jpg

Yes, it is. Only saw one pig and it didn't come in. Too big to shoot anyhow. Lots of action though.

It was fun. After I dropped my limit I just worked with my dog. It was a little hard for her at first as she has only hunted alone til thus weekend but with some help from Baker we got her working good with the other two and it was fun to watch them.

Spent time this morning shooting my broadheads and learned a couple things. One, my arrows are flying well and they are hitting where field points do. Two, if I buy more arrows for this bow I may need to may a change or two regardless.

Had a few days off due to a longer than usual scout camping trip. Those boys keep me young rock climbing and sliding down loose chutes. However I'm a bit worn out and sore. Got back out today and slung 50 arrows or so. Got back into form pretty quick.
Not perfect but feels good to know it's becoming second nature. At least at 15 yards or so. Name: 20170316_193352.jpg
