Default Big Bertha #2 Protein Feeder

Wanted to add a free-choice protein feeder to my Terrell County set-up for the 2016 season. Had a couple days completely off so decided to spend them in the welding shop building Big Bertha #2. Secured a drop piece of 36" culvert pipe and cut it to 48" tall and then added 3 feed tubes. Outfitted it with 3 removable legs for easy transport. She should hold around 1300 pounds of feed and will last forever. Have right at $300 total in the project. Not too bad when considering that units for sale in the same capacity range cost 3-4 times that much. Waiting on the local tin shop to roll me a lid and then she will be finished and ready to head West this March.

How do you keep the feed from just falling out of the feeding tubes and piling up all on the ground? Would you mind showing the inside of the tube, if possible?

He's probably just has a little lip on the end of the tube, that's all it takes to hold the feed back.

It's upside down but it's just a piece of bar welded across bottom to stop feed from flowing.

I went ahead and welded a bold/nut set-screw on each leg to tighten it in place. I also cut a piece of thick rubber to put under each foot. I drilled a hole in the rubber and then cut holes using a torch on the feet at an angle inward. I then drove 18" pieces of rebar thru the feet and into the ground. Even empty, it didn't move and full it was super stout.

I left it flat. The 3 holes are about 3.75"x3.75" and semi in the middle so I figure I can sweep what's left down the tubes each time I refill....

Loved to see all these tracks and that she is working like a champ. They didn't quite have her empty, but seem to be hitting her hard now!

With the flat bottom, it left about 50 pounds of feed in the bottom, which was easily swept to the tubes when we refilled the feeder. I don't mind that at all vs trying to work a funnel into a piece corrugated pipe. VERY happy with this feeder and its performance.
