Default Son's new loft bed

He's 7 and wanted bunk beds. "Son, what are you gonna do with the bottom bed?" Then I thought of turning it into a loft bed and making storage/shelves underneath. It'll have steps (instead of a ladder) with cubbies/storage underneath that as well. So instead of spending $1000+ on a new one, I'm making one. So far I'm in about $350 in materials. That should finish it. Here's what I've got so far.

Kind of like what we did in college, except we put our desks under the beds.

Just finished the stairs and stained them. That's some freakin work! Gonna put them together in his room tonight and then start on the dresser that'll go underneath the bed on the right side (stairs are going on the left). But that may have to wait a week or so.

Very cool - looks really good.

Here's one I built for my daughter - also built a black one just like it. I did these with just the 1 leg and lag bolted the frame into the studs. Ended up putting a strip of LEDs under the frame to have enough light for the desk. Worked out great!

Just be careful using treaded woods indoors. They can put off some bad chemicals.
