agreed 7.62 for hogs. don't get me wrong .223 have cheaper rounds and can still put down a hog but you have to put a couple in the big ones to succeed. The 7.62 has soo much more knock down power and in my opinion is the ideal caliber for hogs.

No brainer 7.62. But don't go with an Ar platform. Stick with an Ak.

DBKeeling, what ammo are you using for your hog hunts?

I prefer 223. Seems u have to lead a running hog quite a bit with 7.62

With that that gun 7.62x39. You said 100 yards 7.62 all day long. Plenty of Ammo. I don’t think you can regret that combo in x39. It was my dream gun for years.

Hornady soft point that comes in red box will work them over. 50 rounds per box

I ain't ever put a soviet rd thru an ar-platform, but doubt the shoot tighter than OUR cartridge/weapon bolt guns a hole nother ballgame though

Having killed hogs with both I would say the 7.62 has a pretty big advantage. Federal is making their fusion ammo in that caliber now along with several other companies. It just hard to beat a 30 cal.

The more I think about my kids shooting it, the more I lean 223

                                sounds about right.
either is fine... 7.62 packs a little more punch inside 100.
