My opinion is that if you want him to keep shooting he must have fun shooting. To do that he needs to shoot traditional equipment. Compounds get people all wrapped up in the doo dads and trying to duplicate the rifle minute of angle performance. He will soon get tired of chasing the latest "faster bow" and maybe quit altogether.
My son was hunting with a compound and when he would come over and start shooting my recurves he would shoot until he couldn't see anymore. Sold his compounds and shoots Bob Lee and Wing.
You will need to do the same because if he sees you wrapped up in the doo dads he will do the same.

Once you get a rifle sighted in it isn't any fun anymore. Same with compounds to me.
