Dang they got us wayyyyy back in there. Cant be more than 200 yards from the ICW. Did see any gators where are sets are but the guys next to us had 3 circling the bait.

We bailed out at 3 to let em soak. Fingers crossed and thanks T.roy for all the tips!

Edit...one thing I dont have in the boat that would be handy. Soap.

Cold water smells like rotten chicken after baiting. Latex gloves just didnt work out with the rain and sweating.

Good thing you got the wife to bait the hooks.... right?

I'd imagine soap would at least decrease the funk of your hands a little.

I had her on the bank holding the boat with the mosquitos. Even with the chicken smell I think I made out alright

That smell is horrible. You have to put the hook in the bait when you start it so you dont have to touch it when setting it.

The yellow dishwashing gloves work like a charm or chemical gloves if a buddy works in the plants.

Another bait that works for me and drives me nuts that it does is the cheapest Cornish game hens you can buy. run the leader line thru the butt and out the neck, I guess it looks like a bird dangling there.

One of the Nephew's chickens died the other day, he told me use her to get a big'un because "Big bait catches big gators!!!" #sevenyearoldlogic

I dont know the number. We followed an employee down. But it's the furthest south they got from the map.

I'm hoping for one but 2 would be better. We're supposed to be loaded in by noon. It wont hurt my feelings to be done by 8...

I wanted to do that but wasnt sure they wanted to inspect the hooks.

A 7'6" and a 6. There was one 10+ and may have been on bigger.

Ask what was taken in compartment #3. If not much ask for it then call me or pm me and I will tell you where to set your lines.

They didn't let us pick. It went by type 9f boat. They did say the biggest they've seen was in our unit.

Probably 15 of 20 tagged in today. 3 over 10 foot

We just got back from setting our lines. Saw a few small ones and had about a 4 footer knock out bait down but fortunately didn’t swallow the hook the biggest from today was 10 foot 4 inches. We are excited about checking the lines tomorrow.

We were on the lower end. I think it was south of unit 6. Everyone was on the main channel due to the invasive plants taking over the compartments.

We were the first boat out yesterday morning and saw a TON of gators on that channel. All the big ones came off it

What happened to the other guy hunting gators there? Or did I imagine that? I put in for tags in Arkansas and Texas and struck out on both.

I did forget about the long wait time while the gators are being skinned. We always dropped them off and went in and ate something.

They skin em for y'all? Or you pay somebody to do it?? Sauce picaunt was my favorite gator recipe. Even the Aggie would chow down with me.

Skinning was on the hunter.

There's a fella across the bayou that skins 10 bucks a foot. Only problem is, hes got no help and no cold storage. We dropped our gators at 9am and one of ours didnt hit the table till 3p.

And that's after the fella in front of us helped do his own. After watching one I did the same on our 8 footer and it went faster. We left port Arthur at 4 and ended up doing the small one at home.

A 6 foot gator will fit whole in a 94 quart cooler. Its not overly hard with 2 people and next time I'll do my own

I had no problem getting into easy shooting range with my bow just using a trolling motor. I've heard about the popping cork or topwaters with no hooks to bring them to you, but I've never tried them. One of the fellas working there said the squealing pig call will bring them running since the pig population there has exploded and they're used to eating them.

Makes me wonder if a hunk of hog meat or skin/fur might work well for bait.

I believe they require bait to not have fur or feathers still attached. At least the did in the past. I never did ask why.

Well we had to battle the tropical storm but was still able to tag out yesterday.

We ended up being first off the water so Im not sure how the rest of the hunters did with the bulk of the storm pushing in right as we got our gator on the boat, hope they all got one though.

official tape: 9' 1" -- 205lbs

**got home and had to pull my laborers out school to help with the break down**
