Default Brief me on Borger, Texas please...

Well it looks like I値l be working in the panhandle area from about mid January until Mid April.

So far I知 not hearing too many positive things about the area but being the optimist that I am plus a real diehard Texas fan in general I知 still seeking things to do in my limited off time while there.

It seems like most attractions are in Amarillo.

I知 especially interested in any outdoor related activities, especially shooting and hunting.

Thanks!

Not much in Borger, stay in Amarillo for housing. Some neat state parks up there. Weather is crazy and changes quickly.

Borger may be one of the worst towns in Texas. I worked at the ConocoPhillips plant from 09-11. We lived in Fritch, which wasn't great but better than Borger. Palo Duro Canyon is nice, and we enjoyed going to Amarillo. Shop at United over Lowes. I still go back every year to duck and goose hunt. But no amount of money would make me live there again. Oh, and if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes and you'll hate it even more. Lol

North of Borger is Adobe Walls, site of a historic Indian battle. Eat at the Plaza. There is an archery club there with an indoor range. Two golf courses. Movie theater.

Amarillo for most things.

Get a good coat. The winters are brutal up there. I have seen wind chills of -50. Amarillo is nice. People are very friendly. I ran the Abuelos in Amarillo for 7 years. My wife and I only moved to Lubbock to be closer to family.

Yep, it's tough country... Meredith is nice, and the water is up! ample places to shoot your bow, miles and miles of roadside! And I 2nd the crazy weather, ALOT more snow than I expected, and saw freezing weather later than I would have ever thought (may, June).. overall I enjoyed it

Not sure about parks in Borger. There is a nice park on the West side of Amarillo if you don't mind the drive. Are you working in the refinery?

Borger is a hole. Pampa isn't near as bad. Amarillo (west side) is fine. Lake Meredith has a decent amount of water now. Be aware that it is a dangerous lake when windy, which is often in the Panhandle in the spring.

You might be able to find some quail or turkey during the times you're there. If you're an NRA member, you might also take a trip over to the Whittington Center in Raton, NM. Just a few hours away.

Not much in Borger, not a place to break down and get stuck in for three days, waiting on parts. It's mainly a small oil field town. Some good hunting in the area. It's not that far from Amarillo, I know I would go explore Amarillo. But then you are not far from Okiehoma or New Mexico or Colorado.

Good friend of mine was born and raised in Borger. The way he describes it, you don't break up with a girl, you just loose your turn.

I see it as you are lot closer to NM/CO public lands. Spring bear hunt????

lake Meredith will be having good crappie and walleye March - June. The wind out there on the lake is no joke though so be careful. You can hike or off road for miles and miles at Bugee, Blue creek, Plum creek, Mcbride canyon etc. Palo Duro Canyon is worth the drive too. lake Greenbelt near Clarendon has good fishing too. Country dancing at Guitars and Cadillac's or Western Horseman in Amarillo. Lots and lots of good restaurants and bars there too. Pampa my home town is very similar to Borger. A lot of folks prefer to live in Pampa and drive to work in Borger. Pampa's not much better but they have better neighborhoods to live in.
