Point of fact, if we're debating it...there's no reason everyone in North America shouldn't own a .264 mag.

See, there's the proof! Haha that should have been "5". At least I got the year right and didn't put 17 like I've done all week.

Would this include 300WSM build? I currently have one, but am looking for something much lighter. Love the round, not the weight of the rifle.

Anyone care to give me any advantages of a 7-08 over a 6.5CM...
I’ve always wanted a 7-08 for Texas hunting, but seems like a 6.5 would get more out of a custom rifle. Which would be better with a shorter barrel? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I believe they are quite similar, but the 7mm-08 will allow you to shoot heavier bullets (better for bigger critters). But they should both be able to do the same thing. I'm sure someone will come along and offer a far more poetic and accurate account of the differences. |

Both will shine with 140-142g bullets, 7-08 will be about 150 fps faster at that weight. Due to current craze there is a better selection of good CM factory ammo but both have good ammo availability. There are other points of discussion between the 2 but none that a deer will ever notice. |

7mm-08 can use a shorter barrel 20 - 22 inch. APR recommends a 24 inch barrel for 6.5CM. I read several articles about the 6.5CM before I ordered it and one of the articles writer took a 6.5CM with a 27 inch barrel. He cut off an inch at a time and would check ballistics. He found the 24 inch barrel to be the best.

I agree with the above. The cm is the hottest thing going today but will it be in 5 or 10 years...? Who knows....? Safe to say brass will be around for reloading as is true with any 308 based round such as the 7-08.
You could further improve the performance by going to a 708AI. Velocity would improve and trimming would be a thing of the past. Yet another excellent reason to build a custom that few seem to talk about. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk |

I did my part! Just paid my deposit for 2 rifles. One a tbh special for Jr in 7mm-08 and one a backup pea shooter for doc to take in to the mountains in 6.5-284. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the guys at APR a d they made it easy! Pretty sure I’ll be using them in the future and I don’t have the guns yet. Gonna be a long wait but I think Jr will have a good birthday in July!!!!

So what is the difference between the 6.5 and 6.5-284.....Is the 6.5-284 a hand load or is there factory ammo for it....

Midway has a pretty good selection of x284 ammo right now, which I find odd but it’s a great round. You do get more out of it hand loading though as is true with most calibers. Sierracharlie out… |

Midway has like 10 different rounds for the 6.5-284. There are a lot more factory ammo options for the creedmore, and it will fit a short action mag, where the x284 would suffer badly in order to fit a SA mag. If that even matters to you.

I have a 25/06 sendero and it’s a tack driver and a 270, 30/06, 243, 223, 30/30, 300short mag, 22 hornet, and probably a couple more in the safe. Out of those rounds the 25/06 and 270’are my favorite. I’m having a hard time deciding what other caliber to go with. I don’t reload but one day I might, how much better is the 6.5x284 than my 25/06? Farthest I’m comfortable killing a animal is 400yrds because that’s the farthest I have practiced. So what would be a good caliber that I could kill with up to 400-500 yrds but maybe do some long rant shooting past 500yrds?

Looks like you are missing a good short action capable at that distance so 6.5CM or 7-08 come to mind. |

Never owned a 204, but I love my Tikka 22-250. Shot a doe in the neck a few weeks ago and dropped her. Shot a few hogs and a coyotes as well and have not had to track anything. I can only imagine an APR in 22-250 would be a bad @$$ gun.

Joined the club yesterday. Ordered a 7-08, black stock with gray web, sniper gray cerakote and 22" barrel with spiral flute. Will be my first custom gun and can't wait to get my hands on it!

You will love the 7mm-08! My good friend has a Christensen he carries for clients to use when he guides. It has killed eland and elk to deer and all kinds of stuff in between. I had one built for my wife and stepson and it’s by far my favorite gun in the safe. It’s all we carry most of the time. We shoot barnes 120 grain ttsx out of it and everything dies.

My thought on a custom 204 is that it's not a long range cartridge and a custom wouldn't take full advantage as another caliber would. |
