Default Major Stockshows- season thread

Well major stock show season starts tomorrow at the Fort Worth Stockshow and Rodeo. We will be there tomorrow for my daughter to compete in the Livestock Judging contest. She will compete in Fort Worth, San Antonio and Houston in Livestock Judging. We are taking 2 goats to San Antonio and she will also compete in Horse Skills in San Antonio. Should be a busy next few months. I know there are several that show as well. Best of luck to everyone and safe travels

We have county in a week and a half. Both kids have a steer and pen of rabbits. One of those steers goes immediately to Harvest House for the cash-knocker. I think we will be fighting one another to see which of us gets to beat him into the trailer. One of those!
The other goes to SA to show light weight Shorthorn (plz Lord, on both accounts).

Well our county is after 2 of the majors so we have to have two sets of animals if we want to show at County and a major. We have 4 goats on feed. 2 for San Antonio and 2 for County. Got my daughter and son both showing

Growing up our county show was the week before Fort Worth so it worked great

Used to show steers at San Antonio and Houston. It was always a blast. I like The Houston show better. Seems a lot more organized. Miss those days.

Well pretty tough Livestock Judging contest today at Fort Worth. My daughter’s team got 19 place out of 50 teams.

Last year my daughter was 8th place high point individual. This year she did not do very well. Hope she gets herself together for San Antonio and Houston

Well you all that have kids out there showing and getting ready for shows be careful. A kid in our barn got knocked down on Saturday evening by his Fort Worth sheep and fractured his tibia. They were supposed to be moving into Fort Worth on Thursday. Now the mother is scrambling trying to find someone to show the animal

Being that I'm an animal chiropractor that does 90% stock show projects I have been covered up. Three county fairs this week plus heifers heading to Ft Worth. Our stock show is next week, then we are headed to Cowtown for the steer show the 29th. Ill be slicking my steers off this weekend and clipping my Ft. worth steer up next week. I will post pics, got two very nice slick steers. We had Reserve Champion Maine in SA last year, going to be hard to top that.

We don't do any "majors", but my youngest (Hannah) is showing her lamb in Hallettsville on Saturday, with sale on Monday. It's her second year to show.

Her lamb was a few pounds over max weight (unofficial) when we took it to have it sheared on Monday. We have been attempting to cut weight this week. We can weight it on the official scales this afternoon, so we'll know how close we are before official weigh-in tomorrow morning. Hopefully we don't have to resort to drastic measures to cut further! LOL!

Well pigs move into Fort Worth today. Goats and sheep out yesterday. It is amazing how fast they clean those big barns. We spent all day yesterday watching the Junior Goat show and there were some great animals there. Congrats goes out to the kids on the hard work they put into their show projects. We are now two weeks out to goat move in at San Antonio. It is crunch time for our two goats going there.

Twerpy showed her goat at Fort Worth.

She didn’t make the cut. The class was crazy big (60-70 in the arena) and there was some stiff competition.

The plan is to hit a few jackpot shows between now, and the spring county show, which is the market sale.

She won a show earlier this season, and is really proud of that

She’s in the FFA calf scramble today. I took the day off, so I can take her. Should be fun!

How did she do in calf scramble?

We leave Friday night/afternoon headed to San Antonio with 2 goats. Goats don’t move in until the following Tuesday but my daughter has a Horse Quiz Bowl event she is in on Monday. So I was not going to drive 5+ hours then drive back to get goats then back down with goats. Have a place to keep goats for Friday-Monday. Good times

Didn’t catch at the scramble, but she had a ball! She managed to get run over by the calf she was trying to catch. Had a nice hoof print on her back for a couple days after

Well I do miss it this year. My last one graduated last year and is the Texas FFA State President this year. With him being president we still get to be involved in ag but not like when showing. After 14 years of showing I miss the shows but not all the time and work before the show! Good luck to all the showers out there and if you see my son at the shows, give him a TBH sign. He is cowboytuff on TBH.

What an awesome honor for your son. Congrats

Miss my kids showing. Can't help myself though. I help several families here with buying and feeding their pigs. One of my former students had a heck of a day yesterday at the San Antonio cross gilt show.. He had a BUNCH of his gilts that he bred make the sale today.

My boys showed goats, sheep, and rabbits at Ft. Worth. They didn't make the cut with the goats, but one got 19th with a heavy weight dorper and they cleaned up with the rabbits. I think one got 1st, 2nd, 6th, 10, and 12th with his rabbits and the other got 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, and 4th with his rabbits.
