OSHA has been notified. I had the unfortunate opportunity to have to go to NO a few weeks ago. What a nasty, smelly, filthy, disgusting hell hole that place is. There's a reason it's below sea level, because it should be under water!

This twit of a mayor gave one of his reasons for removing these monuments was because they displayed "guns", which sent out a message of violence. NO had had 74 murders this year, with a population of Less than 450,000. By percentages, that beats every city in this country for murders. I would think he would be more. Concerned with THAT than some bronze muzzleloader on a monument.

Wrong. OSHA has authority in ANY unsafe work acts in the USA. They could shut it down in an instant & write multiple citations. They can write tickets to the president himself if deemed necessary.

No. You are wrong. Do some research. There are alot of areas where osha has no jurisdiction. Here's a screenshot straight from osha.gov

There is no "trumping" in OSHA regulations. There has been no revisions in the exemption of state and local government employees. Thanks for playing.

Blake I have a question. I can't believe these valuable pieces of history will be destroyed or taken to the scrap yard. Has there been any effort by groups who want to take the statues and put them on private property?

You just struck a nerve here. I had a bad thought after reading that. Then it turned into a funny one. Ya, set that feller on top of that pedestal. That long tall pedestal. Make him seated on that thing.

There have been quite a few people and historical organizations come forward expressing serious interest in "saving" these Confederate statues. The Mayor's office hasn't even responded

The monuments were originally paid for by private contributions (not city or public funds) over 100 yrs ago. The city will end up spending between $1M - $2M removing them and eventually replacing the remaining pedestal bases.

Here's where Mayor Mitch Landrieu will be even more of a "Richard" and show his true colors. I have no doubt in my mind he will claim these statues are worth $5, $10, $15 million dollars ??? Basically price gouging and over inflating prices which potential buyers cannot afford. IMO, they should be donated to a historical museum or site that will preserve them where people can remember history - whether your opinion is positive or negative.

Beauvior Civil War Museum in Biloxi, MS really wants them and will give them a great home. Sadly, I see these statues remaining in the city waste disposal yard where they will be vandalized and/or stolen by looters The Jefferson Davis statue is already missing and the city doesn't know where it is

What remains of the PGT Beauregard monument base , even the inscription was removed and is now a major eyesore. The statue was near City Park and was at the entrance of the NO Museum of Art. Thousands of people visit this museum daily.

Upon removal, a father and son spray painted and Gen Beauragrd's name back onto the monument. They were immediately arrested for de-facing and vandalizing a public historical monument There is NO monument to deface... just a concrete blob !

Meanwhile Gen Beauregard still sits in the city waste yard (trash pile) ... Landrieu promised all the statues would be safely housed in a warehouse
