Stone, Green Flash, Deschutes, Southern Tier, and He'Brew off the top of my head are very good at brewing IPA's.

A good rule of thumb is that west coast breweries produce good IPA's. Their water chemistry is ideal for it.

Never would have thought the water would have that much to do with taste. Thanks for the info.

Water chemistry is a huge part of the process and is a big reason why the various brewing traditions in Europe are so local.

The other thing that has a huge role in taste that surprised me was yeast. Switch yeast and leave everything else the same and you would swear that they are two completely different beers.

My neighbor is the head sales rep in dallas for a beer company... he's a good friend to have. Just got a couple bottle of Widmer's barrel aged and some random bottles from a small brewery in Portland.

I've been trying a lot of new beers lately but not many craft or micro brews. Anybody know of somewhere I can get some around the San Marcos or Victoria area? I go to school in San Marcos and Victoria is the biggest town within 40 minutes of my home town

Gabriel's Wine and Liquor down by Center point station. It had a good beer selection the last time I went through there a few years ago.

It's not bad, but I must confess I don't know much about fancy beer. They had it on tap at a steakhouse we ate at in Shreveport so we tried it. My wife is the fancy beer fan in the house so she located it in the can someplace...not sure where. It's brewed there in Shreveport.

If I'm gonna treat myself to a fancy beer I get Banquet Beer, Lone Star Light, or Shiner Bock.

I only tried the Saint Arnold's last night. It was pretty good, but it's the only Saint Arnold's I've tried so I can't compare it to the others. I'll try the Sam Adams tonight. I've tried Sam Adams Boston lager and I wasn't a fan, but I really like their Octoberfest.
I'll have to look for them 6 pack holders next time I'm at HEB.

Been drinking a bit of the Peticolas beers as of late.
Great Scot is a really good ale.
Opened a growler of their Wintervention last night. It is a 10% spiced winter ale and IBU of 45.
