I just walked to marker on the bridge that indicates Mexico and picked them off there.

They definitely have some dumb rules. To me as long as itís free of ticks it shouldnít matter how many times you try to cross it.

Agreed bud. They turned one of ours around for a scab that blew away while I was arguing with the inspector.

One time they didnít want to let me cross, because they said I had to much blood in the ice chest! I told the guy you do realize that there is a quartered up deer in there. I ended up talking to his boss and they let me cross.

I always wondered how they handle the guns if you just checked guns out of MX, and then have to turn around and go back to MX to throw a cape in the trash.
What do you do with the guns at that point? Seems like that would be a logistical mess.

There is a turn around spot on the bridge with a huge trash can in del rio. I wanted to just chunk it there and turn around but my buddy said we better just cross. It took us a good 30 min to explain to them why we where coming into Mexico with a cape. The agent let us keep the horns on a table and another buddy sat there until we got back. Really a pain. They didnít check our truck but could have if they wanted to in Mexico. Once they figured out why we were crossing they just let us go and told us to dump it in the nearest gas station trash can.

We tried crossing 6 capes last Friday at Eagle Pass. 5 of them failed. The border patrol agent literally used a microscope to determine one spec was a tick. He took glee in finding anything. Made us take capes back to Mexico where fortunately I have friend in Piedras.

Our options now:
1) Mount deer in Mexico then cross. I understand that may work . Still investigating.
2) Use an outfitter who makes an appointment with wildlife and fisheries and cross the remaining 20 capes we have all at once. Risk still is some rejection.
3) Try again and hope you get a reasonable agent that appreciates
WE HAVE TANNED, DIPPED AND FROZEN OUR CAPES!!! The ticks are dead!

Lastly we may just ditch the idea of bringing capes from Mexico and buy South Tx. capes...an idea I hate but may be necessary.

Dang, sorry to hear that.
Friend of mine was crossing one at Colombia and first words out of the "female" agents mouth was "oh, I will find one".
Not cool!!!

Wow. Crazy stories on the capes!
I canít believe they donít just let you throw the rejected capes right in the trash. Iím 2 for 2 on getting ours across but the last time they spent 15 minutes looking at it. Even carried it over into the sun to get better light.

They should just burn them with all the other junk they take up on any given day, instead of sending hunters back to Mexico to have to explain the situation to the MX customs agents.

Quick question for you veterans....

Looks like we may have a mexico lease this year, and I have a kawasaki Mule I was thinking of taking over there. It's an older one that my grandpa gave me. No title, and he doesn't think he even has one....

What type of paperwork will I need to drive it across border and back?

You will need a original title (no copy) for both mule and trailer. You will most likely waste your time even try taking it down without both in hand

We are moving from our Guerrero Coahuila place, down to a ranch in Tamaulipas. Our current lease will now be available, and I am posting to help our landowner find a group.

The ranch has a fairly nice 3/2 house, very good blinds and working feeders in place. Some really neat areas (big oak mots, mesquite and huisache arroyos, sage, and lots of buffalo grass). Not overgrazed.

4700 Acres, though I would call about Ĺ of the ranch Good deer hunting country, with the other half being low brush with off and on coal mining activity. The ranch has a very large low fenced neighbor to the S, and is HF on the N and W sides.

In 2017, we killed a deer in the mid 160ís, and passed on a 150 and two 140ís. Most of the younger bucks show some potential. We put a bunch of work into the place Ė clearing senderos, moving blinds & feeders, etc.Ö

1 hour from Piedras to gate. Price may be slightly negotiable, but in the 3K/gun rangeÖ
Our outfitter in Piedras will likely handle the showing & leasing of the place. He will charge a fee for his services, if a deal is reached. Any deal you can work out will be between you, the outfitter, and the ranch.

Serious inquiries only. PM me and I can pass along the info. -Walker

...I will probably re-post on the 2018 MX thread once it gets created. Here are a few ranch pictures.

No I think the groundwater is just below the surface in this area. Some of the oaks are massive, so they must be drinking from a serious aquifer. Here is a bow stand that I will leave on the ranch up in an oak grove.

Ok, I leased a place about 10 yrs ago that had the big oak motts running thru it. It was pretty dang cool, right on the river. Low brush, then oak motts, then low brush, then the river.
There was some BIG oaks right on the river.
Thanks, and good luck down in Tam.
We were about 15 miles South of Piedras.

Ok 5 of us have acquired a ranch in the Piedras Negras area.... what should we look for as far as spots when we go select our stands? We are east Texas hunters with 1 being in Mexico for 10 years as well and Iíve been down there twice. We identified some flats on google earth, but what should rookies look for to pick the best spot to setup?
