What’s you go to for dropping a big whitetail in his tracks? This would be on big Mexico bucks with no concern for meat saving just for making sure a buck runs in the thick brush as little as possible. Also shots would be 200ish max

I'd be looking at Partitions or Accubonds at weatherby speeds

110 Accubonds is what I have been using for the last 10 years on my 257 WBY. I am thinking of trying out the ELD-X from Hornady. My buddy shoots them and they do a ton of damage, softball size exit holes.

I was looking hard at Accubonds. Chad at Custom Reloads of Dallas suggested the 115 berger vld with what I told him which kind of caught me off guard at 200yd or less and 3300-3400fps.

No experiece with the Bergers in the weatherby but when run hard out of my sendero 25-06 they can be nasty.

Ive shot countless deer with my vanguard sporter. Made the switch from 120gr partitions last year to the 110gr Accubonds (which are more accurate out of my rifle) shot 3 deer last year and 4 this year. Everyone hit in front of the shoulder at the base of the neck. All 7 DRT, not one step. All at 200 yards or less. Zero bullet pass throughs but you dont need a pass through or bloodtrail if you smack em on the stop button

I shoot 100 gr. Barnes TSX in the .257 STW and have never had a deer (or hog) take a step. I am going to try a load with the accubonds when I get some time, but Barnes have been good for me at around 3825 fps.

I’ve shot the 115 vld in mine for years. They are pretty devastating. Way way better performer for me than the 110 accubond

I shoot a 100 gr. Spire Point and they don’t go very far. Out of the 4 deer I killed this past season, the furthest one went about 30 yards and fell over (all shots were behind the shoulder). All 11 hogs I killed were DRT...either shoulder or neck shots.

Bobby I shot that giant mule deer with a 115gr Nosler Partition Hand load out of my 25-06.
I hit him in the base of the neck at over 300 yards. Folded him up. His neck, in that area, was as big or bigger than a 5 gallon buck and it was a complete pass through. Made a believer out of me. ![]() Last edited by ttaxidermy; 02-07-2018 at 09:23 PM. |

Hell I hit one of those 230lb Mexico buck with a 140gr twice, out of my 7mm08, and no exit. Both shots where 2" apart and he still acted like he wasnt even hit for a few seconds after the 2nd hit him.. Last edited by ttaxidermy; 02-07-2018 at 09:40 PM. |

I’ve dropped em with the 115 ballistic tips and 115 Bergers but I prefer the Berger.
I find it comical when folks say “I shot him in the neck (or head) and he dropped right there”. Well duh........... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I use Nosler Partition 115 gr in my 257 Weatherby.
I shot my last Axis thru the shoulder and this bullet was just underneath the skin on the opposite side. The shot was a little over a 130 yards. |

Haven't had anything as accurate in Dad's 26"bbl MKV as the 115gr Berger, but have no performance reports on game from it. For the range specified, I'd have a hard time not slinging a 115 or 120gr Partition at 'em. I'm more of a traditional guy at heart.........

My rifle has a 24inch barrel, 69grs of RL22, WLRM primers and Nosler 115 gr Partition gave me an avg velocity of 3354 and an SD of 5.
Bobby, I also have about 50 of Berger 115gr VLD Hunting bullets left that you are more than welcome to use. Just shoot me a PM and I throw em in the mail. |

Started with spitzers and now shoot 115 vld’s and 110 accubonds
13 critters dead in their tracks, 3 no further then 40 yards, one made it about 125 yards but the shoot was a hair back as he was walking and 310 yard shot. |

I let my neighbor use mine last deer season. I had several boxes of the Spitzers which are 100 grains. He shot two deer with it. One deer didn’t even wiggle, the other he was excited and put a couple shots into it. I found one bullet and it was a pretty mushroomed bullet. I reload Nosler 100 grain Ballistic Tips for it but he decided to use the Spitzers instead. I wanted him to try the NBT’s so I could see the aftermath. Maybe this year.

I've had the best results with the Accubonds. Haven't had one run off yet. I've also used the 115 gr Berger H VLDs. Those bullets are extremely destructive to internal organs. Leaving the innards immulsified. But never had a pass through, not that it needed it the bullet did exactly as it was supposed too expending all its energy in the animal. Just didn't like loading those things so close to the lands and basically turning my 700 into a single shot that was a little bit of a pain trying to get a unfired round out of the chamber.

In my two vanguards they had trouble grouping anything other than the spire. Have shot them in south Texas for a long time. Under 150 yards go for heart lung. Over that bone is good.

I shoot the 115 barnes TSX and have had really good luck with them. I have not had one fail to pass through an animal yet and leave a good exit. Have shot a couple 200+- lb boars and they were DRT behind the shoulder. Has been my go to bullet in most of my rifles since i started loading.

I run the 115’ @ 3210. Had them over 3350 and things got a little explosive, may of been bad batch or the bullet just didn’t handle the rpms well. Either way dropped it down an no issues.
As far as on game preformance I’m 99% if the time high shoulder or neck/shoulder crease so 99% of my shots are DRT. That’s more shot placement then bullet though. |

I’d like to know how you got the bullet that close to the lands. When doing load development for mine, the bullet would fall out of the case mouth before reaching the lands. Still is a 1/4” gun with factory loads so I don’t worry about it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

115 VLDs or 117 GMKs @ 3450-3600 fps is hard to beat. I did a lot of testing and settled on the 115 VLDs. I did not have a good experience with the 100gr Barnes YMMV
