We dumped 4 1/2 tons of 17% last weekend. First time to use the feed trailer. That's the only way to do it. Beats opening up over 160 bags in a day

I tried peas north of Angelo about 2011-2012, mixed with corn. Don't think deer ever ate them all season. They'd eat the corn and leave the peas on the ground.

Moving to Irion to join Brandon and Jeremy! Really looking forward to the upcoming season. I've been lucky to hunt with some great guys the last 4-5 seasons but this lease opportunity is the type of place I've been looking for. Great property, great setup and two good friends.
Thanks Jack. I wish it would have been under different circumstances but looking forward to it as well. We are going to have fun and glad to have you around.

I think it was 305 a ton. Feed trailer held 3 1/2 tons and we got a pallet of bags for a few feeders we can only get a ranger to

Youíre correct. It was $305 a ton. Pretty good price for 17%. Hope we get some rain and some fresh browse soon to make that 4.5 tons last a little longer lol.

I started Jasonís lease and left in 2009 to chase a goal. First place didnít pan out in WaterValley and I had to ďHopĒ to another place in Irion county. Hunted that place for 2 years with great success but just wasnít the right fit for us. ďHoppedĒ over to another place in Irion in 2012 and have been set since.
Funny this is the opinion of some but I was actually reminiscing some today about what the 3 of us have done since landing on good places. Equates to 28 bucks ranging from 130Ē-160Ē between 3 guys not counting what other members have killed. I donít know what the definition of instant ďsuccessĒ is and Iím sure itís in the eye of the beholder and to each their own! We only get to live so long and exsperiance so much and Iím after a goal and sometimes that takes moving around untill you find it. Whatís more interesting to me is why the judgement on how long a person stays on a place when most of the time you donít know the surcunstances on why they left. Most likely because respectfully they donít say much on the internet about it because folks are sensitive to the reasons on why they left a place.
Just my quick assessment and personal journey before I settled down on a place for enough years to be considered ďimpressiveĒ.

I went back to Palmers BC 23 this year. We were having some consumption problems with AP and seemed to be getting some really dry type feed on several loads. We set up some feeders side by side and the Palmers was gone quite a bit quicker. Not that were trying to spend more on feed but when we had both out the AP sat until the Palmers was gone. Seemed like the quality of the pellet had gone down some.

Probably because A/P pellets TDN is higher and they dont need to eat as much of it to feel the burn.

No,youíre good and no apology needed at all to me. I didnít take your post directed towards me or anything. We are all good folks here and love hunting.
My post was just to share my opinion about the different roads we take sometimes to get to where we wanna be. I feel as fortunate as you and Jason do today with the years of longevity i have had on a lease. Itís a hard thing to accomplish nowadays for a lot of reasons.

Ill have to see which one it was exactly. Pellets would just crumble to almost dust. Two loads in a row. It was the 20%.

We have been on ours 12 this being our 13th in Water Valley. We don't kill giants, but I've made a lot of good memories there. I'll keep it until they run me off, but I'm chasing some bigger end deer too in the meantime

I've hopped around as much as any but like Jeremy eluded to many different reasons. None of which was looking for instant results or an easy road. Most of the time it was because I was trying to fit a square peg in a round hole or once I got the square peg in the hole someone would come along and break the puzzle. At that point we all as paying hunters have a decision to make. Do we just keep throwing money and time at a bad situation. Life is too short especially when hunting with my daughters are involved. As any of my former lease mates can attest to I put as much time, work and money on a lease as anyone and every property I have ever been on was better when I left then when I arrived.
There is several people I would still love to share a lease with but over time we have grown apart you might say wanting different things. I think we all as paying lease hunters strive to be long term leasers like Smart and others. Everyone is looking for different things in their ideal leases. For some our requirements are different and some times what we think we want changes over time. Regardless of how exciting it is to scout nd setup new grounds i for one am dang tired of moving all my gear.
For once in my life I am finally going into an off season completely at ease knowing I have finally landed on my "unicorn" deer lease.

Just giving my experience to add to what Jeremy said earlier. We are all different, do what works for you.

Oh and Jason please hold off on the rain dances until Monday. I need to get my gear moved this weekend

I've always used their 17% and when we first made the switch our deer preferred the AP to the palmers deer chuck.
Of course it changes all the time depending on grain availability and price.

I really like the cottonseed pellets from Rowena. Best thing is the coons don't eat it like they do the regular protein pellets.

I’ll be hunting a spot on the family place in paint rock this year. They have seen some 130 class deer in the past few years with a 4.5 rule for trophies (lots of 3.5 yr “oops” bucks shot too from what I’ve seen.) the lease has been rewritten to 5.5 in hopes of keeping the 3.5 yr olds alive and getting some 140 class bucks, only time will tell.

I’m finishing up a 1,000 lb protein feeder this month and will be feeding Double Down protein through the spring and summer.

What side of paint rock? There is some really good areas for trophy deer around there. It should all be target rich!

Some good bucks near the cemetery area of paint rock. I hunted the road going to lake Ivie for 10 years straight. We killed a couple of 140ís and seen a few bigger. That was from 1982-1992 so itís been awhile back. I bet with some management and feeding you could have some good genetic bucks. Good luck and keep us posted on how itís going!
