During my African trip the weather was very nice most of the time. A little cool in the mornings and the evenings but hot during midday. The hot weather during midday was a good indicator that most of the animals would be going to water. On a couple of days the winds were really howling. This was the case on the day I shot my Gemsbok...the gusting winds even kept the cape buffalo on edge. My PH and I burned braided TP which he called monkey tails, rat tails and warthog tusk to mask our scent. Believe it or not the animals were not spooked at all by the smell of burning paper. Slowly but surely as the sun started to go down and the wind settled down. And just when I felt my opportunity starting to fade.......a nice male Gemsbok came in and gave me a shot. The shot was good and the arrow took out both lungs on the Gemsbok. He still managed to go 100 yards before piling up.
