A&D ointment is sort of brown. And it contains petroleum jelly. But most vets discourage the use of creams and ointments. Hot spots aren't just dry skin. They are a rash caused by inflammation - a dermatitis. The best thing to do is keep the area clean and dry and treat the underlying cause of the inflammation. Your vet may prescribe antibiotics, topical drying spray or a medicated shampoo.

Google says brown vaseline is carbonated vaseline.

Will look out in the shed when I go feed the dogs. I have always used some sulfer based stuff. Has worked great for me in the past. NuStock. Just remembered. Works alot like the used motor oil does. Makes hair grow back asap!

If all else fails, see your vet. I`ll thinking you`ll be looking for that brown-vasoline for a spell. No offense to your dad.

I offer nothing but the subject line almost made my brain explode with the number of jokes that ran through it.
