    great weekend hunt

I worked with a friend to make this hunt happen. His family has a section in Cotulla Texas that is a fun place to go. I've been there one other time several years ago. Anyway he and I went to high school together. his son graduated last year from the same high school. He wanted me to build his boy a gun for his graduation present. We discussed it, and this hunt was part of that hand shake. We left Thursday midday in hopes of making it to the stand that evening. That evening hunt was the first time ever that my wife and son have shared a stand with me. Ever. That in itself made the trip memorable.

Arron missed a pig that evening. He and I returned the next morning to the same stand and another pig came out early. He decided to let me take the 250 yard shot. It was a cold rainy morning and the dead pig didn't slow the deer down at all. We have deer down all four roads. A few hours later a good older ten point came in. He pretty well knew what he was after after seeing lots of different up and comers, and older deer on their way down. This deer was the perfect mix of older, not going to get better, and big enough to make him happy. We watched him come in from about 600 yards away. He went in the brush as he got close to the dead pig and luckily came out on our side about 100 yards away. I gave him the green light and he made it happen.

The rest of the hunt was spent trying to help with the pigs and Javi population control. We made one thermal night stalk on a big pig, and he got to use the graduation pistol and his lever action 44 on his two Javis. It was a fantastic weekend playing in the mud and with the guns. I am ready to pick up my bow already though. I had withdraws and continually was scouting out good bow blind locations all weekend. Much to our hosts amusement.

                            Chris,

Where did you buy the camo TBH gear?

Bownanza a few years ago. Mary always has something unique there.
