I am very happy with my Leupold Mojave, 8x42. They gather light really well, and are very clear. They are right in the middle of your price range.

Zen Ray ED3 especially if you can get a demo version is the best buy you find in this price range.

I prefer 8 magnification but the below link to open box 10 mag at 339 is almost too good to pass up.

I got my Vortex Viper HD's 10X50 from Arrowsmith. I have zero complaints. I've compared them to the top of the line binos and yes the top of the line are better but not 3 to 4Xs the price better.
