Default deer ribs

Are they safe to give to dogs? Was thinking about slicing them up and freezing them to give as treats throughout the year

I remember a time when we ate them.. the dogs might get a rib bone. If I don't cook mine, I use them as dog food. I also use them to lay trails for training Puppies to trail. They will follow that scent forever looking for them.
People tell you not to feed your dogs bones now...I've feed them to hundreds of dogs over the past 40 years, and haven't had one have a bad thing happen. Yet.

We have 2 Schnauzers - a miniature and a standard. The miniature just turned 1 yr. old. We used to give them deer bones but stopped when I found the standard Schnauzer would bite and break the bones, and the miniature would grab the bone pieces and shards to eat/gnaw on. We've gone completely boneless now to avoid any problems with the dogs. We save the rib meat and put it in the grind pile. We save the trachea and buck parts for the dogs now (we boil them with the kidneys, heart and liver).

Regards,

Dave

I've always heard raw bones of any kind were OK. I just gave my daschunds a couple ribs off a doe from earlier this year and they chewed em up and they were gone in a couple hours. No issues so far. Cooked on the other hand is where I have heard you have issues, especially with the chicken bones. I've given them the bone from a tbone steak to gnaw on but avoid ribs or chicken bones that have been cooked.

Yes. Dogs are supposed to eat Raw bones and Meat.
I give deer and hog ribs to my dogs regularly. They crunch them up happily and eat it all.

Cooked bones are a NO. They harden when cooked and splinter into sharper pieces.

I’ve given bones to my dogs, but never any kind of bird bones (chicken, etc). Those splinter pretty easily. But I know my dogs have eaten a bird or two over the years and they have been fine

I'll butcher the while deer or hog, cut into smaller portions, and feed them till it's gone. Then they turn their nose up at dry food a bit when the raw is gone. Never had a problem with them getting sick, just kept the meat on ice

My dogs love them. Just stay away from cooked bones. That being said my dogs eat cooked pork rib bones all the time never had an issue.
