Me saying I would shoot it is not really going to help you. We all have different requirements. But as I said, I would take it. Coming from hunting the public land mountains of PA that is a big deer to me .

Why do you hunt?
If a decision you make about one deer fits into the answer of the overarching question, then roll with it! If you can't answer the big question, maybe consider it first before deciding to kill or pass on this buck.
I don't mean that in a judging way, and I'm having a hard time finding words to explain the thought... Personally, at the end of the day I don't want to kill just to kill. Sometimes I feel the pressure to do that when my wife asks why I'm passing on legal deer. But I will feel sick at heart if I shoot a decent buck when I made it my mission to only shoot a big one. It feels like I'm killing a buck that I'd made a peace treaty with, if only in my mind.
However, in another year I might just be about filling the freezer, and then even Spikes McGee isn't safe from me!
Does that make any sense?

Sounds to me like killing this deer would be just killing another deer. If he's not really what you're looking for, why kill it just for the sake of killing something? Let him walk and wait for something that excites you, something you'll have a good memory of, even that means going without a buck for a year or 2 or 3. Plenty of does out there for meat.

Only you can decide that for yourself.
As for me, I’d shoot him. I’ve got a 126, 151, 160, and soon to be 181 on the wall. If I keep going to Kansas, 150 and up is pretty doable and that’s great, but hunting small property East Texas, a 130-140” deer is a great deer that I would be ecstatic to take. Will he look as good as a Kansas brute on the wall? Probably not, but he’s still a dang fine deer.
I guess what I’m getting at, like yourself, I have shot bigger/better deer, but I wouldn’t let that detour me from taking a dang nice deer just because he may not be as big as my biggest deer.
