The Bearded Fox Brewing Co. in Tomball is my favorite.

I volunteer there and run the bar on some weekends so I get to drink for free

I used to enjoy London Hall when we hunted out near Junction. Lots of history there, and at one time it was the oldest, continuing open dance hall in the state.

Of course, in my younger years, Acuna was fun when we hunted near Langtry.

Before you Young Unís time but the Coconut Grove in Lake Worth was a real Beer Joint. No dancing, No live music. Great Jukebox, 2 pool tables. Had that Beer Joint smell. Cold beer,Feisty waitresses and those GOFís didnít tolerate smart talk from us youngsters. It was about where Chicken Express is now.
199 was 2 lanes.

Back in my younger days there was a place in Ft. Worth called Rustlers Rest, I went there all the time. It has been gone for 30 years or so and I haven't thought about it for years. Just thinking about it put a smile on my face

How close to Langtry?? North or south of 90??

There is a place on the Rio Grande just down river of the confluence of the Pecos and Rio Grande... It was known as "diego's" cantina, supposedly you could boat over to the dock and have a beer. I have yet to encounter anyone that frequented or had a beer at the place. Curious if you heard of it or perhaps had a beer over here.

Him and his brother Louie Tofel ran that place. Had to go to the outhouse in the back to use the toilet because they had no running water. All the old timers would play moon there and it would get bad. Good old days right there.

Still like to pop into the green room from time to time to have a beer.

We stayed in Langtry and hunted north near Pandale, but it was back in the 70's. I never stopped in Diego's nor heard of it.

Yea, when Enoc and Yard Dog passed George really didn’t know what to do. He got a crazy good offer for the old store and sold it. We thought we’d lost our hang out til they brought the green room in. Less history but still a great place for a cold pivo.

I haven't seen the green room yet lol, but I'll have to go check it out next time I'm out that way.

I'll never forget Enoc talking about some running back running through the line "like sh*t through a tin horn"! He always had these crazy sayings that made no sense but were still funny.

And if you ever ate ice cream from there, it was always brown, and it wasn't chocolate either.

Lazy J Bar near Vienna

I used to hunt outside of Hallettsville. An old(er) friend of mine knew about it, but did not know it was cash only. We show up with no cash. The locals did not let us leave until we had a couple beers each. Some of the nicest people in that area.

Yup, he went and ruined the place. Nothing like walking out back to take a leak behind some corrugated tin with the ground squishing beneath your boots when it hadn’t rained in 3 months and a extremely strong smell of ammonia. I remember when if you were tall enough to get 75 cents on top of the bar you could get you a cold lone star light.

Hudje’s (sp) in Engle was the same way. You could play pool there for a quarter and stood a strong chance of making all the balls in the back left corner on the break with that old crooked wood floor.

I remember my dad stopping at the beer joint in Engle at the corner of 2238 and 90 when I was little. There was also another store between Engle and Flatonia on 90 that he used to stop at. For the life of me, I canít remember the name of it. Both always had old guys playing dominoes in them.

St. John also had a beer joint that closed pretty close to when I started high school. Mr. Berckenhoff (sp?) would make BBQ on Saturdayís that he sold out the back.

Spent quite a bit of time between High Hill Store and Moravia Store when I lived in that area.
