Love all these RUMs. People look at me like I'm crazy when I pull mine out. Glad to see I'm not the only one that enjoys what it has to offer.

Hand loaded for years but don't have my gun room finished up in the new house so all my reloading stuff is packed up...

Just loaded 10 rounds for the 300 tonight. Getting ahead of myself. Still have a lot to do before I pull the trigger.

Does anybody know of a good place to go shoot prairie dogs in Texas or southern Oklahoma?

                      Multiple kills passed 500.

Farthest ive confirmed is 625. Dusted a fallow does feet at 806 yards in New Zealand last year. I need to practice a little more at that range.

One day I may get serious and start hand loading.

My next build will be a 338. Either a rum, lapua, or a weatherby. Can't decide which yet.

I have a 300 RUM in a Christensen also but my go to is my 300 Win.

I'll post my 308 custom gun when I get it in a week or so.

I was talking to my Elk guide about the larger longer range calibers and his experience on real animals is that it's hard to get bullets to perform at closer ranges. Unless you are able to shoot at 400+ they just zip through with little expansion. He had a client with a 338 Lapua shoot an Elk at 200 yards, 7 times to put it down. Obviously that includes some bad shot placement but it still brings up the point of being too close for proper bullet performance.

Agreed. I'm building that gun just for big game. I plan on 250 grain Partitions which should work at any distance. SMK's shouldn't be hunting rounds anyway. Here is my preference right now.

                                1) RUM
                                2) Weatherby
                                3) Lapua
