Another 30-30 question

Okay, I checked my ranges today and my maximum possible shot is 120 yards. Would you zero it dead center at 100 yards, or maybe an inch high? I suspect most shots would be well under 100 yards, probably within 75-80 yards.

I always zero'd my 30-30 at 1 inch high at 100 yards. Just personal though.

So, if I'm reading the chart correctly:

170 SPCL 0.3 zero -2.7 -8.3 -17.1 -29.9

Zero at 100 yards, -2.7 inch drop at 150 yards, 0.3 high at 50 yards. So, at 120 yards the drop should be somewhere around 1.5 inches or so? So, it seems that a 100 yard dead center would be more than adequate for out to 120 yards.

Does that seem correct?

According to your numbers go 1/2" high at 100 and you will be with 1" from 50 yards out to 120 yards or so.

I have mine and my son's sighted dead on at 100 yards. I haven't shot over 100 yards with a 30-30 in a long time but wouldn't hesitate to shoot out to 125.

Mine has been sighted in at 100 since I bought it back in '85. Only done it a couple of times but wouldn't hesitate to go out to 175yds, but only if you know your drop. Aim just below the top of the back (on deer) and let 'er rip tater chip.

I thought I was the only person left that liked the 30-30

Mine is sighted 1/2" high at 25 yards, +1" at 50, +1.3" at 75, +.9" at 100, 0 at 125yards, -1.5" at 150 yards.

I like my 30-30 to thread brush so I set a 3" max MPBR for plus an negative 1 1/2".

Powermax 150gr, BC .224, velocity 2350 in my 20" Marlin
