Default Best way to find the history of you property?

Whats the best way to find out who owned the ranch and the history of the area that your neighborhood/house was developed on?? Are there old property maps or something that you are able to view online? I have done extensive google searching and I guess I just don't know the right terminology to get to those maps? Hoping to find out about the property my house sit on as well as some acerage we own.

You could probably go to the county tax assessors office.
We look up address all the time and you can typically see the last several deed transfers.
Once you know that info you may be able to search this new info.
1st step search your county CAD
At the office you should be able to easily look at historical maps and such

Some great maps and aerials can be found here. You can even do an overlay of maps to get GPS coordinates of old structures...handy tool for metal detecting.

Go to the CAD website. Usually the last three transactions are listed.
