Default Masks outdoors / Exercise & politeness.

Ok, so this isn't a political point but a human interaction / response I've noticed & was curious if other's are seeing the same.

I try to walk the dogs every AM & have a hike & bike trail behind the house...while not a high volume trail, there could be up to around 2 dozen folks on this one mile stretch & of the people walking, jogging & biking I would say mask wearing is 50/50.

I make a point to say good morning to everyone I pass & have a nice day if I see them on the way back...I get replies about 50/50 as well. For the past few days I started paying more attn & noticing that almost all the folks not returning the courtesy are mask wearers & also avoid eye contact?? There were two people today on bikes going at a good clip who placed their masks on as they approached me...couldn't you hold your breath or is this making point?? I'm sorta enjoying killing the daily debbie downers with kindness.

Interesting findings.

I wonder how many of the non responding mask wearers are originally from out of state.

I'm still bewildered by the in car mask wearers.....Sheeple.

Solo car mask setup is just weird! For the trail, I think a lot of people are still scared/uncertain what the right thing is to do. You have the virtue signalers of course but I think people just don't really know how to handle things nowadays. My wife and I try to keep a distance mostly but outdoors unless in a very crowded place I wouldn't even consider putting a mask on. I like to adopt the kindness, sympathetic approach. I hope people can see me smiling when I have my mask on! lol

Ya know, now that you’ve mentioned it, most of the people I say hello to in stores that are wearing masks won’t return a hello or anything. They seem to be so afraid. I’m usually tired from chasing cattle or whatever on a daily basis but still am able to be polite.

Had that conversation with my wife this morning on our walk. Had one family with a very small child (4 or 5) all on bikes with masks on. To be fair, I made no attempt to say “Good morning” to them because it might have come out as “dumbass!”

I notice the exact same here. It’s amazing how some people freak out and can’t get their mask on quick enough when they see me coming. Won’t look at me and nor return my good morning. And I see so many people( only one in the vehicle) wearing them. Riding bikes on trails way back in where there are very very few people, they may be the only one I see in two three hours and they have masks on. Even riding motorcycles I see many wearing them.

We have a trail close to my house that is heavy used. I've been walking and ridig a bike more on it recently. What I've noticed is that it's mostly the Indians that are wearing masks outdoors around here.

Notice the same, I generally say hi to everyone if I'm walking the dog, and have noticed if you're afraid enough to wear a mask on a walk, you dont say hi back for the most part. Some older folks will return the greeting

This is the worst part of all the stupid mask stuff to me. Ill wear one at the grocery store or like place just to keep the peace but it drives me crazy that ill smile and nod and somebody then realize that no body can see the smile.

Kind of like when i work nights and realize I have on clear safety glasses as iv been staring at someone. Idiot

It's crap like this why you're seeing such ignorant people. Social media will be our down fall. Saw this on Twitter.

Health Alert:

Many people who attend trump rallies do not wear a mask, and that practice has caused COVID-19 transmission, suffering, life-long disabilities, & death.

Protect your family & community.

(i) Avoid contact with these people;

(ii) Pass this PSA on.

And they get up in this area and put flood lights all around their house to leave on all night because they're afraid of the dark, and get all bent out of shape when they see a coyote or two.

I don't wear masks outdoors, unless I'm with a co-worker and there's no choice in distance. If there's a concern on trails or whatever, people should just cover there mouth with their hand temporarily till they pass.

A vin diagram with people who are not polite in general, and those afraid to go outside without a mask, would have a significant overlap.

Funny that this topic has come up after a conversation I had last week with several friends that work in the retail industry. So apparently the topic has come up about employee attitudes have severally diminished, especially in the younger age group, do to customers not being able to see the employees facial expressions and other social ques. For instance, there are people who are openly excited that they no longer have to smile at every customer since they "cant see my face anyways". Obviously I know, being a seasoned vet in the retail industry, there is transference in the energy you put out to your customers. I heard from multiple people that customer service has drastically changed at some of their most visited stores.

Its not outside, but when people come to my office to talk, I tell them I cannot hear them with a mask on. The chair is plenty far enough away. Sit. Take the mask off. Lets have a conversation. 100% have said, "Thank You, I hate wearing this thing".

I'm ready for birds, beer & to solve the world's problems again...

~~~~~~~~~~~
Only about a 1/2 dozen folks out this AM and all was friendly accept for this awkward encounter with the one & only mask wearer.
So, the trail is used just like the street where you hug the right side so the faster joggers / bikers can pass on the left and avoid chaos. Well, here comes Ms Mask wearing solid black including her shoes, hat & mask in the oncoming lane up ahead. She's walking super slow & got her nose buried in the phone & just assume she'll go around but not happening...she gets within about 10yds & I give the ole 'morning' & nothing so I go about center lane & my younger dog Stogie proceeds to poke his snout right in the crotch!! I apologize & she flinches simultaneously & gives out a giggle & then says 'Hi' to Stogie??
People are weird.
I’m about half deaf, and the other half ain’t too good. I literally have been reading lips since a massive ear infection at age 14. I cannot tell what most people are saying with these stupid masks on so I have to have them repeat themselves two or three times. I only wear one going to the doctor or the hospital, that’s about the only places I’ve seen that will actually not let you in without one.
Yep, crazy now days the first thing out of people’s mouths is “where is your mask?” Not “how are you?” “Hi, how’s your day”...nothing, absolutely ridiculous. I work at the airport and people are not polite, no talking, looking or coming close. Won’t say thank you when you hold a door for them, won’t return a hello, nothing...I don’t ever wear a mask so I’m sure it’s part of it, but it’s gotten way too out of control, wake up people.
Funny how the things people say about others are often true of themselves.
This is not the only place this topic of conversation has come up. It's interesting to see the reactions, both out on the street/trail and back at the water cooler where people talk about it. My mom gets irritated if people don't respond.
It depends on the venue whether I say hi or not-- if it's walking around the neighborhood with my wife and the dogs then everyone gets it and if they don't respond I don't worry about it-- figure they've got earbuds in or something.
If I'm running around Town Lake I don't say hi usually because I probably pass a few thousand people in my 5-10 mile loop. Down around Town Lake I'd guess maybe 5% of people wear masks.
I have a trail I run on 4 days a week. I don't even carry a mask. I see a full range. Cyclists wearing one and some don't. Walkers who wear one and those who don't. A few that will have it half off until I get close then they put it on until I pass. I don't think I ever see a runner wear one.
I really don't pay close enough attention to figure out how many of each I see.
