I've read that the optimum length for a longbow (be it of classic shape, or R/D) falls anywhere between 64"-68" depending on draw length. I had a hill bow that was 69", it drew like buttah, but was just too long for me to hunt with. I sold it, and bought a "longbow" that was 55". It's perfect for hunting, but it stacks like a mofo. I'm now shooting a carbon/foam longbow that's 60". It's about the best of both worlds. It's a high end bow, but I've learned that you definitely get what you pay for.

Like they have said above, longer usually means smoother and more forgiving, but more difficult to use in hunting situations be it a tree stand or ground blind.

Be careful on the length...when hunting the longer bows can be a problem hitting limbs on trees and ground blinds could be out of the question.....

I started with shorter bows, but I keep going up and the longer ones are much smoother drawing to me. Just my $0.02.
