I went on a bowhunting trip with my son(10), and a friend and his two sons(10 and 12) down to Hondo to the Lee Ranch. It was about a 6.5 hour drive from North Texas. Got there at noon on Friday and was greeted by the Owner, Ray, and Guide Ronnie. The lodge was extremely nice and well kept. Nicest I've ever been in. They were extremely nice and helpful getting us unloaded and settled. We then sat and went over any rules and/or expectations about our stay. We then loaded up on the polaris and took a quick tour of all the stands so that we could pic the spots we wanted to hunt. The rain started in about an hour before our hunt but that wasn't going to stop us. We all saw a lot of animals but nobody got a shot off. Saturday morning hunt was muddy and cold, same thing, lots of animals, just not any good shot. Saturday afternoon weather was perfect. I got drawn on a nice sausage hog, but didn't notice the one that was behind and left of me. One quick grunt and poof, gone. My friend's youngest son bagged a nice black hawaiin ram, and my friend got an aoudad ewe. The tracking dog Squirrel quickly found both. The cleaning facitities are indoors, heated and lighted. Very nice set up. Sunday morning was 24 degrees. Luckily no wind. My son let one fly at a hog from 20 yards but it hit a branch and deflected. My buddies oldest did the same thing on a fallow buck. So the totals were: One 25 lb hog, a ram, and a ewe. Everyone had shot opportunities and saw game. We all had a great time. Some of Ray's family were there and they made us feel right at home and it was a pleasure to meet them. Their facilities are immaculate and they are very good hosts. Upon our departure, Ray gave my friend and me a very nice cap, and the boys some really cool t shirts. I can't say enough good things about it. It's a great operation and Ray, Ronnie, and family can count on us to come back.
