I've fished with this bunch before and had a great time. Nice accommodations and good food.

I have a good friend that guides out of Lake Charles, give him a call. Capt. John Saucier Sportsman Charters, LLC 337-912-5966. I have been fishing with John for several years and have never had a bad trip. He will set you up in nice accommodations and has top of the line equipment. John has grown up on the waters there both fishing and hunting. Tell him Harvey sent you.

We had a great trip last year at the Hackberry rod and gun club. I would highly recommend them as well.

Hackberry Rod and Gun. They just built a new hotel in Hackberry if you chose to go with Hackberry Rod and Gun. If you stay in Lake Charles, l’auberge or Golden Nuggets are nice.

Bruce Baugh would be my choice that time of year. He is a big trout guy not a #'s guy.

We normally take our own boat and stay at a casino. It's a fun trip for sure. When the lake is on it's defiantly hard to beat.

Hackberry Rod & Gun is first class. Been going there for 15+ years and they have the best all around packages IMO. Great food, great accommodations, and great people.

I'm curious as to whether that's a good time to go. Last time I went was in late April and the shrimp had not come in from the Gulf. Also, it had rained a lot and the lake was still pretty "sweet". I'm definitely not an expert but I'd hate for anyone to go at a slow time of the year and not catch much.

I've known Bruce my whole life. His son and I are best friends (he's a TBH'r too). Just fished with him in the fall.

That's trophy trout season. That's when you catch the big girls at their heaviest and full of eggs. If that's what you want.. Bruce is the man. And I don't think any one of the other guides will disagree. He's got several 10lb trout and one went over 11lb out of Calcesieu.

But be warned, ESPECIALLY that time of year, that's all he's after. Not reds. Not flounder. Not small limits of trout. He'd rather put you on 1 trout over 8lb than a cooler full of 15" trout.

Also, he pretty much exclusively wade fishes with artificial lures. And you fish hard. But it pays off. I've seen several days where they caught 20 trout and every single one was over 25". Also seen days where they catch only 1 or 2 but they're wall hangers.

So if you want to fish from the boat for an easy limit and drink beer, he's probably not your guy. But if you're serious about big trout, he's the best there is.

Best part is, he's up front and honest about it. He'll tell you the same thing. And even recommend you to someone else if you just want a relaxing day on the water with live bait. He doesn't need the business. Hell, he's probably already booked solid for all of April and early May. Works mostly off referrals, word of mouth and repeat customers.

Did you check for threads on here? I think there was one last year. There will be some photos in it of man sized shrimp, 6 count or so and big trout.
