How does Keuchelís declined qualifying offer affect him being signed by the team who offered it to him?

I believe because they offered him the QO, it get's them a compensatory draft pick in the coming draft. Pick position is determined by a variety of things.

How would signing Keuchel get us a pick? Since he turned down a QO, the team that signs him will lose a pick.

Iím wondering how signing him affects us because weíre the team that offered him the QO?

It goes back to neutral. We donít lose a pick. We donít gain a pick. Nothin happens. I guess you could technically say we lose a pick to ourselves. Which means nothing happens.

Some see this as a reason the original team of the player might offer more money, because they wonít lose a pick compared to other prospective teams.

Personally, I donít want to re-sign him. Tying up $100M in Keuchel doesnít sound like a good idea. Rather give that money to Cole.

Anyone else upset that the Angels signed Lucroy to a 1yr/$3.35M deal?

While we signed frickin Chirinos to a 1yr/$5.75M deal? You kidding me?

Chirinos is not good. Baseball prospectus has him ranked near the bottom in defensive metrics. His hitting is nothing special. He hit .222 with 18hr last year.

Lucroy ranks on the upper end of defensive metrics (near the top in runners thrown out %) and hit .241 with 4hr last year. Yeah 4 is not much. But coming from Oakland to Houston I would imagine that number at least doubles.

I just canít believe weíre paying almost double for frickin Chirinos.

More OF speculation....
This ones a bit more .. speculative...with possibilities of reddick, tucker, and kemp going to other clubs....because...brantley was signed...
Throw in a little riff between breg and reddick concerning a little instagram callout by reddick concerning a post by breg...and ....is there something to it?

(I say nahhhh...but wth knows.. luhnow works in mysterious ways..especially since his key nerds arent there anymore.)

Not interested in Grichuk really.

Always said Edwin would thrive in MMP. Not sure Iíd like to give up much to get him though.

Iím not in the loop on the Bregman/Reddick beef! Fill me in!

But I always thought it was just a matter of time before Bregman rubbed someone the wrong way. Kid has an ego, thatís for sure.

Yup.

Still a little-lot jaded about not pursuing realmuto more ..but Tucker was the deal breaker...
Honestly ..have to say..ive made arguments on why that still wouldve been a good trade.. but stros got a lot of stock on him and think hes either franchise or worth a helluva lot more than a top catcher than can pound the ball...
Now..to see if they do something about gonzo...

Assuming youíre talking about Marwin as ďGonzoĒ

He wonít be with the Astros next year. We already traded for Diaz. We have plans to make him the new Marwin. Marwin was great. Wouldnít have won the WS without him. But Diaz is a better business decision that sets us up well. Cheaper and arguably better. And cheap is good if we hope to extend Cole and/or Verlander as well as Springer, Correa, etc.
