Well. We got high drama stirring with Storm and LSP on blood trails, but I wanted to share my success with my W brethren. If you've followed the thread you've seen me post especially on those long all day sits, and I think it became evident, I even believe I out right said that I was waiting for a mature buck to cross my path. I put in a lot of time at W this year and saw a ton of deer just never had an opportunity to connect on a mature dominant buck. However, I was fortunate enough to draw a permit for Benbrook for 1/1 thru 1/15. I'm not gonna get too long winded, so I'll just cut to the chase. Thursday night about an hour before dark i had deer start filtering in. First a spike then a group of does. At 5:30 a bachelor group of young bucks comes in and start making a scene. They are in front of me eating and working out the pecking order when I hear heavy footsteps behind and too my left. I slowly look, and see this heavy, tall, wide rack (what I see ok, not necessarily a great actual description) coming in, now just 10 yards from the base of my tree. I wait for him to clear a tree and draw. I ace the pin and execute the chip shot. (There are excluded details, but it's a long story).

And Here's the LDP. Thanks for reading.

He is really heavy but not as wide or tall as I thought. I haven't gotten his jaw out, but I'm thinking 4.5.

Just had a couple of morons come through my set with a dog. Said they were shed hunting. It is amazing how inconsiderate some people are.

No luck here, Iím about to call it. Only blood I found that was for sure the deer was at 49 yards where the nock flew out of the arrow. Sitting in my tree now contemplating what I could have missed. Iíve made circles out to 250 yards and had about enough of black locust tree cutting me up. To try and take a positive outlook I have found some good new spots during the search. Hopefully it was not a fatal wound and I find his antlers come shed season.

Sorry to hear that. I could have helped if I had seen this earlier. If you want to pm the area I can keep an eye out. I find quite a few deer each year while looking for sheds. Hopefully he's still alive and you get another shot at him next year

No luck on finding the deer, but we did find parts of 3 deer and a snubbing buck. It looked like they were dumped last night game warden was notified. TxnRunner you came up with a nice one to end the year. lspdnxs i have no problem in helping someone out if they need it theres a bunch of guys on here that would do the same. Hope tomorrow s hunt goes better for all of us.

Yes I was out there this morning to en the season, I had 3 doe coming in from the south an wind was from the south. All they needed to do was go 10 more yards to clear some trees but they crossed my trail so they bugged on out. All in all its been a great season and wish it wouldn't end. For those of you hunting the extended season I wish you the best of luck!

Hate to hear that Storm but at least you're seeing deer. Sounds like you have some good spots to go back to next season. I'll be out on private land this evening trying to fill my last tag. There hasn't been any bucks over 4.5 on camera for a while now but you never know this time of year. There's a group of does that hasn't had fawns for 2 years so I'm trying to get one of them if nothing else shows. Good luck to everyone hunting today

Very nice deer! I’m under the impression that the regular season ends today and that for another 2 weeks we are allowed to take a spike and/or a doe correct? Just want to make sure I am legal as this is my first year hunting Whitney/Aquilla. Thanks! And goodluck guys!

Sitting in the blind right now on the Bosque side. Feeders spin at 4:15 and 4:30. Hoping some does show up. I probably won't see much in this wind but it beats sitting at home.

Where’s a good place at Aquilla to at least see some does?
I’m only looking to get my first bow kill with a doe, I might get one more sit before the season ends. I have only been out there once, and didn’t see anything.

Got busted trying to line up a shot about 2 minutes before last shooting light. Gonna try a new tree tomorrow morning before the high winds roll in. Gusts around 40 just donít work well for me, being that high off the ground. Sounds like a good time to run corn out to my remaining spots that havenít been burned yet.

3 times in the past couple weeks where I hunt, we've had a couple vehicles pulling up to the bridge and I guess deciding to see how much noise they van make by spinning their tires and smoking out the place. They come back and do it about every 15 to 30 min. Sure hope it is just teenagers, but still is **** annoying.

Havenít been on here in a couple days. Been seeing animals, just canít put it all together at once. Few days ago, I tried a new tree I had scouted earlier in the season. Right about last light I hear a doe blow, still not sure what alerted her as I was not moving and she wasnít downwind of me. She kept at it blowing, then moving around then blowing again. I just stayed still wondering what set her off. About 20 minutes after last light everything seemed calm around me so I decided to pack up and slip out quietly. Sure enough as soon as I started moving there she was again, only this time two others all on different sides of me. They had me surrounded.

With that spot burned I have been hunting a spot I used a couple weeks before. Yesterday I got what I was hoping for, doe walks in with plenty of light left. Watching her ease in I notice another head poke out behind her, the another, and another... end up with 7 hungry ladies chomping down some corn at 20 yards. Got my bow in hand and hook on the release and one of them caught just a slight movement my hand made. Played the waiting game with her for about 45 seconds then she decided to bolt to a nearby tree line with the others following her. About 5 minutes later they all filter back down like nothing happened. Watch for my opportunity for about 5 minutes, then when all of them are facing away or head behind a tree make my draw. About halfway back one pops her head up and catches me out of the corner of her eye. That ended that chance. About 10 minutes after last light had about 20 hogs come in as I am packing up and had just lowered my bow to the ground, perfect timing.

Today, decided to hit the same spot again. Again, plenty of light solo hog shows up. Watched it for about 20 minutes hoping a doe would show since the hog was alone. Starting to get dark, so I line up my shot once it turned broadside. Let the arrow free and as soon as I hit the release I hear a loud crack/pop and see the light on my nock tumbling through the air. Waited until after dark and pack up my gear for the hike out. Went to go pick up my arrow to find the nock by itself with the arrow sitting close to where I was aiming about 10 yards away. Back end of the arrow cracked. Equipment malfunctions this year are driving me nuts.

Is it just my computer? Or is anybody else having difficulty accessing this sight by ACE?

It's a project report on several rivers in the state. Includes release, intake, rise, + or - from normal, ect. I use it and a few other web-sights to help predict what is happening in the Brazos river basin from the panhandle to the coast. Also has a good bit of the Sabine and Trinity rivers info. Just a hobby of mine.

I remember last year or the year before ACE was restructuring it's web sight. And I couldn't get on it. Home web sight also won't let you pick up individual lake info right now.

Last was after Christmas, and before the New Year.

I've got a couple other sights I can use. But they give daily averages. The ACE gives real time info. So I can tell when water is being released. And when it's shut off. Not very true with some of the other sights. But some do give water flow rate in real time if it is a river gage.

The fish are biting, and there's hogs to be kilt. Gotta go!

Default Late seadon success

Monday 1/15 walked in mid day at nearly 70 degrees and walked out in the snow with my first bow harvest. Big healthy mature doe. Got on to deer late this season but it has been great. Trying to figure out how to share an image...
