To field dress all I need is a knife. You guys make things way too complicated. It's just blood.

I have a bagful of sharp things around here somewhere but it has been so long since I've used them I don't remember a favorite.

Thanks. I've been thinking about building a frame to hang a gambrel from...maybe next season

I've used knife an rock more often than not. Usually a knife with a gut hook. A sawzall, hand saw, or hacksaw has always been handy but not required. Something to hang the deer with: gambrel, rope, hooks, or ratchet straps.

If i've got to have one knife, to do it all. It may be a filet knife. What I use for most all of my deer processing.

No need for a hangin pole,or loppers, gut less method right were he falls. In the cooler in 30 min. ( unless it's an elk) then an hour.

                            For simply field dressing:
                            Butt out
                            Sagen hunters field saw
                            Outdoor edge knife
                            Ziplock bags for tenders

Obviously we can all do it with just a knife, but adding these tools to the arsenal makes life easier.

I have been using the same fixed blade buck knife with a gut hook since 2005. Fastest gut time of 33 seconds including 5-6 hacks to split the pelvic bone. Total time to gut, quarter and put in the cooler is 8-10 minutes. I tend to wash my hands when I get to camp.
