Default Love this shot....

Love this photo. Itís my son saying a prayer for the deers soul to travel safely to heaven. He has so much respect for the animal. We said three prayers over that deer.
And you can see if you zoom in, the grass he put in the deers mouth for his journey to heaven. . Love him

Great to see that in a young man.

I'm 49 yo and I still say a small prayer of thanks when I kill stuff. Plan on passing that on to my grandchildren.

My son was 16 yrs old when he killed his first deer -a doe on a TYHP hunt. I walked up with him to the downed deer and showed him how and where to stand, and to check to make sure it was dead. I then told him that it was customary in many cultures to thank the animal for the sacrifice of its life and body, and then to either say a prayer or to pause for a few minutes in silence out of respect for the animal. I stressed that this was purely optional, but that I thought it was important. My son did thank the deer, and said a prayer for it, and placed some grass in its mouth as well. Afterwards, he asked what I would have done if he hadnít had done any of the things (prayer, thanks, grass in the deerís mouth). I told him those were his decisions to make, and that I would support them...but that would have been the last time I would have taken him hunting.

Regards,

Dave

Hi CMLambin:

My apologies - I was writing my response while Christmas shopping with the wife last night, so I was distracted and forgot to include what I really wanted to say about your son. It is obvious to me that through his upbringing, he has learned to appreciate the sanctity of life, and that he is truly a Child of God. Thanks and God bless to you and others who have done such a great job of raising him to respect life, and all of God's creatures. He will no doubt grow to be a caring person, and hopefully, a good hunter and sportsman. Your story and photo brought a tear to my eyes - children like your son are the hope of our next generation of hunters and sportsmen.

Best regards,

Dave
