The acorns in far South Real county were dropping like crazy!
Deer movement around the feeders was fantastic up until 4 days before the opener.
The foreman at a neighboring ranch said it was like someone flipped the light switch and thousands of acorns started dropping.
Needless to say I didn't see any deer.
Maybe early November will be better than years past assuming all the acorns should be eaten by then......

Thinking about making a run to check cameras tomorrow. I've been told the acorns are dropping hard, its very green and not many animals out.

Very slow hunting the past few days. Winter forbs popping up with all the recent rains along with the heaviest acorn crop I can remember. There are some crappy looking oaks that just clung to life after the 2009-2011 drought that produced good acorns this year. Auodad finally arrived on our place in central Edwards. Not too thrilled about that. At least they aren't regular (yet).

Just West of Leakey on 337. Looks like itís going to be a good year, lots of acorns and had a bumper crop of persimmons. Good looking animals on cameras.

Our landowner called and said our roads washed out with this past storm, hopefully the county is on their game and gets us up and running! Should be ok by rifle opener.. we'll see

I was wondering the same thing. Was hoping that cold weather last weekend had them moving. I think the high on Saturday was around 46 in the northern part of the county.

Saw some deer this past weekend. Couple doe with yearlings. Let an arrow fly at one doe, CAM hit my leg and pushed arrow high. Corn under feeders is being eaten at night, if at all. Very green.

Still sounds slow. Was debating on going, but it sounds like I’ll be holding off until we get a good freeze (or thanksgiving weekend, whichever comes first.)

Good to hear. Believe it or not at our camp T Mobile gets the best service......... we were live streaming the last two games of the Astros and Yankees in HD with a T mobile hot spot.

I kind of like not having cell service out there but my wife isn't the biggest fan of it........ Also we have never had an emergency out there, I would imagine that would not be much fun.

Good luck fellas.. wish I was at my lease in Leakey. Wife has a girlfriend coming in, so I’m earning brownie points. Next weekend I’ll be at Timberlake Ranch, then every weekend after that I’ll be at the lease. Have y’all been seeing rut activity ?

Between my dad and I we have an axis doe in the cooler.. which is sweet! Saw a nice 8pt at my feeder but he needs 1 or 2 more years, beautiful buck though!

We didnít even hunt this morning, my son and I hunted yesterday and did not see a deer. We had to turn the feeders down because the corn was stacking up. Acorns everywhere, never seen anything like it. 7-Miles West of Leakey on 337.
Lots of animals on camera at night all of a sudden with no pressure on them, maybe itís just the moon.

We had deer at the feeders but they did not hang around too long. All of the bucks that were on camera in September regularly are very sporadic now. I hope it turns on by thanksgiving.

I wasn't able to go. But my dad got this guy Sunday morning. He was 100yd behind a doe. But not chasing her or anything. No chasing seen. Just scrapes and rubs. Good pre-rut activity. Rattling is somewhat productive.

We hunt west of RS, north side of 377.

AT&T is the only thing that works and we get get good LTE in spots.

A WT doe was also taken and a few hogs.

Hunts started slow. Then Sunday evening it really picked up. My dad saw 24 different deer that evening. And my buddy saw 11 Monday morning.

Buck went 152lb on the hoof. 4.5yr old 9pt

One of the heaviest bucks we've seen in the 3 years we've been on the place. We've increased protein feeding every year. Put out 30,000# this summer on 3200acres.

Saw three bucks chasing a doe midday Saturday. Had a 2.5 year old 8 doggin’ a doe this morning. Didn’t see any mature bucks this trip. Lots of acorns still. Corn piling up in one of my feed pens (hogs can’t get at it overnight). Last filled protein feeders (1000 pound capacity) in early September, and they still have feed in them (unheard of for my place). They can clean them out in a little over two weeks during dry spells. Spotty axis and blackbuck activity at feeders. Big axis bucks I regularly had on camera this summer are nowhere to be found (likely have shed antlers or will do so very soon anyway). Not much daylight pig activity.

We shot a 7 point this weekend that needed to be shot. Saw bucks chasing does as well. Corn is piled up below the feeder.......... Not seeing any of the better looking bucks on the game cams in quite some time. Weather was really nice this past weekend and i got .12" of rain on the 8th I believe it was.

Tons of acorns on the ground and still in the trees. Had some newer bucks show up on camera a during the cold weather last week, hopefully they slip up next weekend.

I brought along two great friends this weekend and TBHr Bocephus got his first exotic bow kill- a great free range Sika buck, all on film as well. I told him he could go sit there and get videoíd while I went solo after the funky buck posted above.. What was I thinking?
